Dude, use your flourishes!

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, Stampin' Up!

Dude 7

This week’s WT challenge on SCS is different ways to use flourishes.  Trudee is guest hosting so be sure to check out her flourish card too!  After reading JanTink’s description of the smoking snake from Zoofari (lol–too funny!), the first thing to pop into my mind was to use a swirl for smoke.  I take no conceptual credit whatsoever for this idea.  It’s all hers!

I used Chocolate Chip for the card base (again-I’ve GOT to put that away).  I layered the patterned papers, stamped the swirls on the top rust piece and added the dotted border trim sticker.

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped the letters and mounted that piece onto Chocolate cardstock.

The snake was stamped on River Rock and cut out.  I colored in his spots and the “cigarette” with a white gel pen, then used a Ruby Red marker for the cigarette tip.

Estimating the placement of the snake and using the Stamp-a-ma-jig once again, I stamped the swirl of “smoke.”  I used a black marker on the swirl stamp so I could omit the bottom curl.  The snake is mounted on thin-cut strips of dimensionals.

Lastly, I added the what’s shakin’ tag.

Thanks for looking!  Have a great day!! :)

Hi friend

Good morning!!  I was up a bit early so I thought I’d check out this week’s sketch challenge at Splitcoaststampers.

When I first saw the Pick a Petal set, I really liked it.  I still do, but it isn’t “wowing” me like I expected.  Maybe it will grow on me.

I used Blue Bayou and Purely Pomegranate to stamp the petals.  I didn’t like how bold the Pomegranate was with the background textures so I inked the petal, stamped onto the retired Just Jeans background stamp, laid a strip of white cardstock over the inked areas and pressed with my fingers.  I tried stamping off onto the Jeans stamp and then onto paper but I didn’t get the denim pattern doing it that way.

I trimmed and assembled the petals by placing a bit of adhesive on the back of each point then used my “anywhere” punch to make the hole for the eyelet.  Unfortunately my Crop-a-dile wouldn’t reach into the center, so I had to bang the eyelet to set it.  (I’d LOVE a Crop-a-dile with a longer reach!) The flower panel is mounted to the card using dimensionals.  (I certainly use a lot of those!)

Thanks for looking!  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Birthday Hugs

Get ready for it…a Zoofari explosion, that is!  I love this set!  I’m on a mission to make a card with each stamp in the set.  (I have to say though that I’m having a hard time with the birds…I can’t get Beate’s description of them out of my brain.  That is SO funny!  **edited in:  Thanks for the link, Peggy, to JanTink’s blog about the animals.  OMGosh!  Now the snake! LOL. I’m going to have so much fun with this set. LOL.)  Ahem…(lol)…

I used Chocolate for the base and, yes, more Tres Jolie patterned paper.  The guava-ish paper is the reverse side of the dotted print.  I rolled Groovy Guava ink with SU’s new See You Around wheel for the background, attached a strip of the dotted patterned paper and faux stitched along the two edges.

I stamped the cat with black ink, cut it out and colored in the dots with a white gel pen.  I stamped the cat again, cut off the head and mounted it on a dimensional over the “base” cat.   (It doesn’t show in the photo, but it’s cute with a popped up head!)  I tied a scrap of dotted ribbon on it’s tail and adhered it to a panel of vanilla cardstock.  After using a Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment, I matted the piece onto Chocolate cardstock and adhered it to the card.

Lastly, I placed the two snaps (using my Crop-a-dile) and adhered the assembled panel to the card.  I wanted to add more of something somewhere, but decided in the end to keep it simple.  (I struggle with that.)

Thanks for stopping by!!  Have a great day! :)

Little Things…Lots of Scraps

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, Stampin' Up!

I’m still so sad that Petal Prints is retiring (lol).

I paired it up this time with some scraps of Tres Jolie that I just couldn’t throw away.  I used one of my favorite techniques, water spritzing.  I especially like this technique on watercolor paper, but since I was determined to use mostly scraps on this card, I just used a block of vanilla cardstock. (You get the same effect using watercolor paper, but I sometimes spritz the watercolor paper after stamping to get even more blending of the colors.)

I colored the stamp with markers then misted the stamp with water.  I stamped the first flower, then the second without rewetting the stamp.  I mounted this piece twice, using the back sides of the two prints (more scraps).

I used Rose Red ink to stamp the background (Penny Black, Silken Knots) on the top part of the Rose Red card, adhered and stitched the two patterned pieces, added the ribbon and adhered the assembled flower panel using dimensionals.

I wish more “scrap” cards went together this quickly!

Thanks for stopping by!! :)

Thank You, Mom

Thank You Mom

*RESTORED* 06/10/07 after the big SCS “crash.”

Here’s one to fit the WT challenge this week on Splitcoast-stampers.  There is no stamping here–it’s a super easy card! :)

I used black pigment ink to cover the Basic Grey letters then embossed using clear ep.  I know it doesn’t show in the pic, but the letters are nice and shiny!  They are also self-adhesive so all I had to do was peel off the backing and place them where I wanted them.  Super cool!  The black flowers are Cuttlebug die cuts.  The flower on the card is raised with bits of dimensionals under the center and each petal.  The white flower centers were punched using 1/4″ and 1/8″ handheld circle punches.  And the word “mom” is a rub-on.   Finished card size 5″ x 5″.

Thanks for looking!!  Have a great day!

     Cardstock:  SU Whisper White, Black

Patterned Paper:  Provo Craft (Christina Cole)

     Ink:  SU Black Craft

Accessories:  Heat tool, clear embossing powder, rub-on by One Heart One Mind,

Cuttlebug, Asterisks dies, SU 1/4″ and 1/8″ handheld circle punches, dimensionals, SU

     envelope

Happy Everything!

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, Stampin' Up!

Happy Everything Set

I wanted something bright and fun to send to a friend and I thought this Deja Views paper with SU’s Gable Green would be perfect.  I love how the pattern mimics the Looks Like Spring flower.

I used Gable Green for the card base, then adhered a panel of patterned paper cut slightly smaller than the card front.  “Happy Everything” is stamped in black ink on a strip of white cardstock, then mounted onto Gable Green and adhered to the card.

I stamped the big flower using Pixie Pink ink on white cardstock.  I cut it out and gave the petals a bit of shape by “bending” each one around my finger.  I punched a 3/4″ circle from green gingham paper, attached it to a circle of chipboard and, using a Crop-a-dile, I punched two holes to make a “button.”  After knotting a scrap of white organdy through the holes, I attached the flower to a panel of white cardstock (mounted on Gable Green) using dimesionals.

The two smaller flowers are punched from scraps of Pixie Pink and the Deja Views print using the Spring Bouquet Flower punch.  The larger of the two flowers is mounted on a dimensional and it’s center is a punched 1/2″ circle of gingham mounted onto a punched circle of tablet backing.  (I like to use actual chipboard and punched tablet backing for differing thicknesses and various levels of dimension.)  I used thin strips of the green gingham for the stems.

Once the flowers were assembled and adhered, I attached the completed panel to the card front using dimensionals.

I picked up a couple of these tiny clipboards at my local A.C. Moore.  I thought it would be fun to make one to match the card just as a little extra!

Thanks for stopping by!!!
