Batty-Bella
I was trying to think of what to do for this week’s WT Challenge at SCS, how to use spirals. I dug through my little stack of notebooks, spiral pads, etc. and decided “nope, not going to happen.” I was getting a little discouraged when it dawned on me that I have a stack of new Bellas which have not yet seen ink. Hmmm….some of them have spiraly hair…so I went with it. I know it’s a bit bizarre, but so are a lot of my other ideas. lol.
When I saw that this Bella had striped pants, my wheels were turning. I picked through some of my paper looking for just the right pattern. Hmmm…a Halloween Bella! Striped pants, spiraly hair…I had a plan. So first I colored her with Copics (had to use Stampin’ Up Rust for one of the stripes though…I have a limited number of Copics), drew in a floor, replaced the heart on her shirt with the tiny pumpkin, then I went to work on her hair.
I cut the thinnest strips possible with my horrible Fiskars paper cutter (Tonic is on my wishlist). I wrapped the strips around a big needle as tightly as possible then trimmed the strips to the lengths I needed. I used liquid glue (Tombow Mono Multi) along each line to adhere the curls. Then I made that ridiculously tiny “bow.” Then, once I had finished the piece, I realized I had not yet TRIMMED the piece! ACK! I couldn’t stick it in my paper trimmer because the curls would get squished, so I had to dig out my craft knife and ruler and trim it that way. (I got so excited about those goofy curls, I didn’t think to plan ahead.) But it all worked out in the end. My only regret is that I don’t have a teeny tiny bat stamp. I would have liked to add a couple around the sentiment. (And I was not going to risk messing up the whole thing by drawing them in at this point.) I did add some bats in the background at the top. I just love the new Autumn Apparitions set by SU, but I’m having a heck of a time using it. (I hate when that happens.)
Thanks for stopping by!
