Where’s the Staple?

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

CM5

Today’s WT Challenge at SCS is to use staples.  In trying to decide what to do, I dug through all my stamps looking for inspiration when, in the end, it was right in front of me.  I had already stamped this cat image from Cat n’ Dog by My Favorite Things.  I looked at the little fish stamp that came with the set and I thought I could use a staple for it’s backbone.  To do this, I put together all the layers for the sentiment, then I put the staple where I wanted to the fish.  I used a black marker on the stamp, omitting the backbone, then stamped over the staple.  I had to rock the stamp a bit.  I think it worked well enough.  I touched up just a bit with the black marker after stamping.

Once the fish was in place, I stamped the sentiment and put together the rest of the card.

Thanks for stopping by!!  Have a great day!

One more from ‘High Hopes’

RFTSI had planned to do today’s sketch challenge and post that, but I have a sick boy at home today and tomorrow.  Strep…again!   Poor kid.  He just had it six weeks ago!!   **sigh**

So today I will share this last card using High Hopes by Lizzie Anne Designs, heavily influenced by Julia’s stitching and use of those big snaps.  My Crop-a-dile chewed the very last eyelet I set and I just couldn’t bring myself to start all over, so I’m hoping the slightly dented eyelet will “blend” with the scrappy style.

I just heard the mailman toss a couple packages on my step and I’m impatiently awaiting the arrival of some new stamps.  So I’m off to check.  If there’s a naptime soon, I may be cutting some rubber!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

Fun with Farm Friends

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

SMFT1Good morning!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

I have two cards to share today, both using Farm Friends by My Favorite Things.  I just adore the sayings that come with each of these images.  For the cow there is “Nobody does it butter,” “Udderly Delightful” and “sMOOches.”  With the mouse there is “Say Cheese,” “How Mice of You” and, my favorite, “Have a Gouda Day.” That just cracks me up.

So for the “sMOOches” card, I colored the cow using Copic markers, colored the eyes with a black 3-d gel pen and popped up the head.  Then I colored the flowery part, cut that out and adhered it to a square of patterned paper with only the border stamped.  This card *almost* follows Cindy’s MFT Monday sketch for this week.  I had to move the sentiment because I used ribbon instead of flowers.  I don’t have many Primas and the ones I have just didn’t work…plus I’m Prima “challenged” so it was best for me to just not go there.  ;)

HAGDR1For this mouse card, I colored the image with Copics, cut out around the curvy border, then adhered that piece onto the rust paper, again with just the border stamped.  I used Chocolate ink to stamp the cheese on the brown strip, punched the holes and stitched around the three sides of the card front.  All edges are sponged with distress ink.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a great day!

Happy *bright* Birthday

HBHH2

WOOHOO!  It’s the weekend!!  (Don’t the weeks go by fast?)

I don’t usually design with colors as bright as these, but I do particularly like this combo of colors and patterns.  So cheery!

The stamps are from High Hopes by Lizzie Anne Designs.  I used Copic markers to color the stack of gifts.  The pink/coral-ish ribbon is by Martha Stewart.  (Have you seen her ribbons?  They’re wonderful!)  The tiny white brad in the center of the stack is a Queen & Company “mini-sprinkle brad.”  You can find those here at Jacksonbelle Embellishments.  They, along with EVERYTHING else in the store, are 25% off through Saturday night…lots of goodies there to check out!

One final note…if you have just a couple of minutes, please fill out this survey on SCS.  They want to know what you think, what you want and how they can improve your experience on their site.  Your opinion matters and they want to hear it!  Thanks!!!

Have a fabulous weekend!!  And thanks for looking!! :)

Let’s Paint!

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs

SLB4Time for another Ways to Use It challenge at SCS! Today’s challenge is to use paint.  I decided to paint the chipboard flower and sponge a bit around the edges of my brown cardstock.  Normally, I would use craft ink for that, but since the paint was already out, I figured what the heck.  :)

After I painted the flower and attached it with the velvet ribbon, I decided I wanted to add a bit of color to the edges.  To do this, I used a Copic colorless blender pen to pick up just a tad of color from a pink marker.  Once the bit of color was on the flower, I was able to move it just where I wanted it.

The stamps are from Gina K’s new Stamps for a Cause set, “How Sweet it Is!”  When I saw the stork, I knew I *had* to have this set.  But it also truly is for a good cause.  It was created to raise money for research to help adults and children who suffer with diabetes.  I just couldn’t pass on it.  It’s cute, it’s fun and it helps!  (Click here for more information.)

Thanks so much for looking!  Have a great day!

(Not) All Rise!

YR5

Good morning (well, it’s morning here)!  I hope you are all well.  I’m great!! :)

Before I forget, I have a little enabling for you.  Everything is 25% off at Jacksonbelle Embellishments… EVERYTHING!!!  Basic Grey, Dew Drops, Glimmer Mist, May Arts, NEW Lizzie Anne Designs, Inkadinkado… get on over there and check it out! The sale runs through Saturday!!

Ok…to the card…I’m still playing with ”High Hopes” by Lizzie Anne Designs.  What a fun set!  So many different looks! (Soon I’ll blind you with a *really* bright birthday card using this set.)

I stuck with a simple layout for this card because I knew the focal panel would be rather large.  I stamped the flowers, masking a bit as needed.  I wanted some of the stems in front of some flowers while placing some others behind.  (Once I make a mask for a stamp, usually from a Post-It note, I keep the mask with the set so I won’t have to make another one the next time I need it.  Just a little time-saver tip in case you hadn’t already thought of that.)

To add a bit of interest I cut around a couple of the flowers when trimming the stamped piece, and I popped up the tallest flower with a big pop-dot.  The flowers and brad (which was actually off-white) were colored with Copic markers, and the focal panel is raised on pop dots as well.

Thanks for looking!  I’ll be back soon!

Have a Magical Day

Published by Shel9999 under C.C. Designs, My Designs

HAMDCCD

Good  morning and Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day!

These little Bitzy Bugs drew me to C.C. Designs (available from All That Scraps).  I think they are just the cutest! My daughter adores them.  I stamp images for her to color and she sits with me, making her own “cards.”  It’s so cute. (She’s actually pretty good at pulling colors together and she’s excellent at coloring. I often stop what I’m doing just to watch her…until she notices me staring, of course.)

I used “Ballerina Bitzy Bug” and the small solid shadow spot.  The sentiment is by Stamping Bella.  All coloring was done with Copic markers.

I popped up the little skirt using a thin strip of dimensional tape, then I added a bit of liquid glue to the top, pushing down the “waistline” using the tip of my scissors so the skirt would appear “attached.”  I colored a white brad with a brown Copic.  (I cannot believe that I, user of so much brown, don’t have any brown brads!!  But I know where to get some! :) )  I used a waterbrush to add the bit of color to the sentiment.  The flowers are medium Sea Prima Mini-Me’s.  I needed something brown behind them so I used SU’s flower punch.  Cardstock is Bazzill Pistachio Criss Cross, and you can find the ribbon (which inspired the whole card-lol) here.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a magical day!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, Stamping Bella

YSYP3“You stuffeth, you puffeth”…don’t we all know it!!!  I’ve had Pmsabella for a while and am just now getting her inky.  I think she’s one of my favorites!  (Who am I kidding? I love so many of them!)  And I couldn’t pass on this sentiment to go along with all the junk!

This month’s challenge for SCS’s Dirty Dozen (both current and alumni) was to use a girl image (Bella), include something sweet (she’s snacking on a chocolate bar and bon-bons…among other things) and no standard A2-size cards (mine is 5″ x 5″).

I did a lot of paper-piecing using Daisy D’s Maybe Baby Valentine 8″ x 8″ paper pad.  As I mentioned a couple posts ago, I always look at the layers before beginning.  I first stamped the whole image onto the white cardstock.  I stamped the chair portion onto the paisley print, cut it out and adhered it to the white.  Next I stamped the head/neck portion and the feet onto vanilla cardstock.  I colored them, cut them out (the feet were cut out as one piece leaving some connecting cardstock above since it would be covered by the pants; this way I wasn’t dealing with little individual foot pieces), and adhered them to the chair.  Next I stamped the pants and shirt, cut out and adhered them. For the last of the piecing, I used the bowl of (caramel :) ) popcorn from the image I had stamped on the vanilla cardstock, colored that, cut and adhered atop the pants and shirt.  The junk food and soda were colored with Copics.

To see more of the Dirty Dozen challenge creations, click here. I can’t wait to see the others!  Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you’re all having a super weekend! :)

Emboss it, Baby!

Published by Shel9999 under Inkadinkado, My Designs

GWSIRWhew! The week is almost over already.  Where does the time go?

Today’s WT challenge at SCS is to use embossing powder.  My card was not only inspired by the challenge, but by Julia (our “WT” hostess), herself.  I love how she incorporates stitching and Primas into her designs.

For this card, I used black craft ink to stamp the Inkadinkado bird image* directly onto the patterned paper, then I embossed the entire thing with clear EP.   The sentiment is embossed as well.   I used SU’s Floral background on the burgundy block under the focal image, but it’s hard to see.

Once I added the Prima, it looked a little too “pure” for this card, so I lightly sponged the edges with Ranger Walnut Distress Ink.  (It’s my favorite for making things look “dirty.”)  The ribbon is from Jacksonbelle Embellishments.

Lastly I added the stitching and sponged some of the edges with the distress ink.

Thanks for looking!  Have a great day!

*ETA:  The Inkadinkado “Birds Galore” and “Garden Flowers” sets are available at Archivers.

Cardstock:  Bravo Burgundy   Patterned Paper:  DCWV Once Upon a Time “Botanical Script”   Stamps:  Inkadinkado “Birds Galore” and “Garden Flowers” (sentiment), SU Floral background   Ink:  SU Black Craft, Ranger Walnut Distress   Accessories:  Prima felt flower, ribbon, sponge, heat tool, sewing machine/thread.  Card size 5” x 5”.
