A Special Card for a Special Someone

Published by Michele Boyer at 7:45 am under Inkadinkado, My Designs

That’s the sentiment on the inside of the card.  Today is my grandmother’s birthday and this is the card I made for her.  She is very special to me and unfortunately, I don’t get to see her often enough.   She loves hummingbirds, so I thought this image by Inkadinkado would be perfect.  (If you’re really nice to Lindsey, she might get some more in her store. :) )

A Special Someone

I don’t usually make cards without sentiments, so in a way, this card just looks naked to me.  Well, not “naked” really, but like it’s missing something.  But this image is kind of large and I just wasn’t sure where or how to fit one in.  I thought about making the focal panel larger and including it there, but then not much of the patterned paper would show.  But I think it turned out ok.

I stamped the image in Jet Black Stazon then watercolored with SU reinkers.  Once the ink was dry, I outlined a bit using gray Copic markers (Nos. 1, 3 and 5).  I don’t know that this is an accurate rendition of coloring for a hummingbird, but that’s what they look like in my head. :)

I hope my grandmother has a wonderful day…and I hope she realizes my crooked stitching was intentional.  ;)

Have a great weekend!!!  Thanks for stopping by!

Oh my — this is gorgeous, Michele! That hummingbird says it all — no sentiment needed! The paper is a perfect background!

I hope your grandmother has a fantastic birthday! :)

What a beautiful, beautiful card. Your Grandmother will love it. I struggle with not putting a sentiment on the front of a card (I just made one this morning like that) but sometimes it just doesn’t fit. Your card is perfect the way it is.

Wonderful card for your grandmother-stitching and all-(grin). I have that stamp and really like it. I don’t put sentiments on lots of my cards if it detracts from the main focal point.

A beautiful card Michelle, your grandmother is going to love it! I love watercoloring humingbirds, my favorite tiny little bird. Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday to your grandmother.

Michelle, I know your grandmother will simply love this card…who wouldn’t? I love your watercoloring. I have this stamp and have never used it. Makes me want to break it out and put some ink on it…LOL

This is just gorgeous! I too have this stamp because I fell in love with the image, but to be honest the size and detail have kind of scared me. You did such a great job with the subtle coloring and not trying to colorize the whole thing. I don’t think I would have ever thought of that approach. Beautiful and I am sure your grandmother — or anyone for that matter — will love it. I also struggle with where to put the sentiment, but I also will often decide to just let the image do the talking. Great work!

Michele, this is gorgeous! That stamp is wonderful! Your colouring is fabulous!! I think the card looks wonderful without a sentiment on the front. All the attention is put toward this beautifully coloured image. I hope your Grandmother has a wonderful birthday!

This is stunning! Just perfect! You don’t need a sentiment on every design. One on the inside is fine and your grandmother will just love it!

Gorgeous, Michele — that hummingbird image is beautiful and you’ve colored it so soft & pretty . . . blends so nicely with that yummy paper!

It turned out beautiful, Michele! I’ve gotten hung up on trying to fit a word or sentiment on the card front, but it’s so NOT necessary. I love a beautiful card that’s totally devoid of sentiment. Some of the cards I’m most drawn to are simply little pieces of art that don’t say a darn thing. Your Grandmother will love this, I know!
