An Altered Project Challenge

Published by Shel9999 at 10:00 am under Cornish Heritage Farms, My Designs

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!  Today’s Monday Chick Challenge at Cornish Heritage Farms is to make an altered project.  Making any kind of altered ‘anything’ is always a challenge for me…totally out of my comfort zone.  But one thing I do need is a book I can use for notes, ideas, deadlines, anything like that.

I’m a Mess

IAM5

I’m always inky, my table is always messy and well, I’m just usually a mess in general (with my stamping)…so I decided to make a messy book.

A while back, I picked up a few of these $1 journals from Michaels thinking someday I’d use them.  Here I am about two, maybe even three, years later using the second one.

All of the phrases, the coffee stain and spots are from Ledger Me (The Rummage Bin), the clock is from Time to Stamp (also from The Rummage Bin), the French Script backgrounder is lightly stamped over the clock and the last stamp I used is from a new line at CHF.  You know how sometimes you want to use a background stamp, maybe for a 4 3/4″ or 5″ square card and the stamp isn’t wide enough, or maybe you want to turn the background stamp horizontally but then the pattern isn’t going the right way…or maybe you want to use one for a scrapbook page and the overall size is just too small?  June 3rd will bring the first release of Scrapblocks™ from Cornish Heritage Farms…6″ x 6″ background stamps!!!  Holy smokes! I can’t tell you how excited I am about this line!  They are perfect for bigger square cards (which I love to make) and, of course, they can be used on the standard card sizes as well.  I used the Vintage Ledger Scrapblock™ on this project.  It was the perfect size for my 6″ x 6″ book!  Be sure to check out Lisa Strahl’s blog (link below) for more info on the Scrapblocks™. (She’s the orginator of this brilliant idea!)

As soon as I have a chance, I’d like to take this book apart again and add some cardstock dividers with tabs.

Cardstock:  Prism Spring Willow Dark, Tawny Light   Patterned Paper:  We R Memory Keepers Urban Window Boho Chick Fancy Free   Stamps:  CHF Ledger Me, Time to Stamp, French Script backgrounder, Vintage Ledger Scrapblock™   Ink:  Ranger Adirondack Espresso, Latte; Ranger Walnut Stain Distress (to sponge all edges); Colorbox Dark Brown chalk ink (to cover front and back cover edges)   Accessories:  EK Success ¼” square, American Crafts medium Chestnut brads, Martha Stewart brown twill, hemp, binder clip, paper clip, edge distresser, sponge, Copic marker-E49 (to color silver metal of binder clip).

Be sure to check out these other CHF chicks to see what they’ve altered.  (I can’t wait to see for myself!)

Admit it — you were thinking of me and what a complete mess I am when you made this! Maybe you and I should have a mess-off? Love your altered notebook, and let me know if it works for keeping you better organized. I’m desperate for a method that works!

What a cute theme for your book! I love it! I love the idea of these big, square backgrounders, too. No more partial backgrounds or piecing together for large square cards. Great idea!
