Paper Cuts

TGIF!  It’s a day of school parties and trick or treating here!  I thought I’d finish off this Halloween season with my favorite cheesy ghost from Whipper Snapper’s Hocus Pocus.

Say CHEESE!

I added the EEKs to the top portion of the card, the stars behind the ghost and used a marker to randomly stamp only the eyes and grins on the bottom.

The hat is paper-pieced and the arms and tail are left unattached so they pop off the card a bit.

Today brings the release of another Thomas Kinkade image from Cornish Heritage Farms, Clocktower Cottage.  I used one of my favorite techniques for TK images, Vintage Vellum.

You Are Missed

I stamped the image onto vellum using Adirondack Espresso ink.  Once the ink was dry, I used Copic markers to color the backside of the image.

I then trimmed the image, leaving a small border, cut a block of Natural cardstock to the same size, and adhered the vellum using Tombow Mono Multi.  I carefully and lightly applied the glue around the edges, behind dark marker or ink.  The upper left corner is blue sky so I added a small dot of thinly spread glue in the corner.  (The glue doesn’t show through the vellum at all.)

I don’t know about you but I always have a hard time using small images. What to do besides make a small card?  I thought I’d challenge myself to use a set that has small images but keep the cards standard size.  I used Spooky Expressions by Whipper Snapper Designs.  (I just love Anna’s sets!)  :) 

Jeepers Creepers

This is what I’d do if I saw a bunch of spiders hanging around me (or even one)…grab a broom (or whatever I could get my hands on) and swat them away (actually, I’d beat them to death).  Ick.  I hate spiders.  I’m fine with them outside as long as they aren’t near me. But in the house…that’s something else.

Black Cats Prowl

I’m not quite sure why, but I like this card better than the first.  (I put the other one first because everyone else in my house liked that one better. **shrugging shoulders**) 

You can see in this close-up that I actually masked part of the tail so it looks like the tail loops through the ‘o’.  (It’s a detail that I’m sure noone else would ever notice, but *I* know it’s there and I like it.) 

So which do you like better?  The ghost or the cat?

This last release is the License Plates backgrounder.  I used it with the Chevy truck and Pinwheel backgrounder.  This card still looks like it’s missing something but I think I’ll leave it alone.  Men don’t usually care if there are a lot of doo-dads on their cards (at least the ones *I* know don’t care).

Today’s chick challenge is a cool one, faux cool that is.  We’re playing with faux snow.  (You can check out the challenge forum here if you’d like to play too!) 

Due to my choice of papers I wanted a clear or white snow.  (Some have a blue, purple or pink shine.  I didn’t want that for this card.)

Warm Greetings

I first tried UTEE for the snow (without heat setting).  I got that idea from Julia but I obviously have a different brand than what she used because once I got it on there, I didn’t like it at all.  (Hers was gorgeous.)  I found mine to have a bit too much of an ivory tone and not so many chunky, light-reflective pieces.  Then I remembered that a while back, my friend, Jody, made me buy this huge tub of Diamond Dust.  Yes, she made me buy it.  She’s like that, you know.  ;)  But, now I’m so glad I had it on hand, so thanks, Jody! :)  (hee, hee, hee)

I glued some Diamond Dust over the UTEE and then added some dots of dust into the snowflake centers on the background for a bit more sparkle…which, of course, you can’t see very well in this photo but it looks very sparkly in person.

Do you have a friend who is sick?  I’m not talking about physically, but sick in humor?  (Remember, this is all in fun!)  I have a friend who always makes me laugh…no matter what.  Sometimes she’s just plain silly, and sometimes…well, yes, she can be really sick.  But it’s still funny as can be.  So I made this card for her. 

One Sick Puppy

I have a stamp with the sentiment “heard you were one sick puppy” (by Art Gone Wild) but I wanted to add to the sentiment, so I used my computer to print the text on the patterned paper.  The pup is from “Cat n’ Dog” by My Favorite Things, and the charm reads “Be Yourself.”  I just wish I could have figured out how to add a captain’s hat to the dog.  ;) 

I popped up the pup’s head as well as the white panel and the scalloped border.  I used a clear gel pen on the eyes and nose and a white gel pen to add highlights to the dog’s eyes and dots in the scallops.

In making this card, I needed to refill one of my brown Copic markers.  Just in case you’re not familiar with this process, you carefully remove the chisel tip from the end of the marker to refill the barrel.  That being said, here’s another important Copic marker tip:   After refilling the barrel, replace the chisel tip before replacing the cap.    (My mind is on WAY too many things lately.)

Your Friendship

This is a great set for the more serious sides of things.  I love the cutesy stuff, but it’s not always appropriate.

I’m off to do about 100 things that didn’t get done in the last couple days.  It was fun to spend some huggy time with my little guy, but he’s back to school and I need to get back to my to-do list.

Since it’s almost the end of October, I thought I’d post one more sample using Ahoy Matey, Cornish Heritage Farms’ Stamp of the Month.  I don’t usually say this about most of my cards, but I **love** how this one turned out.

Yo Matey!

Maybe it’s the distressing…or the stitching (I stitched the little treasure path on the map)…or my little pirate parrot (who isn’t afraid to wear pink)…I just really like it. 

You can see the detail a little more clearly here.  I popped up his wing, used a gold glitter pen on his earring, and only attached his body to the patterned paper allowing his hat and tail to “lift” off the paper.

I think I’ll head off to bed now.  My little guy was up several times last night with a severely sore throat.  Yes, strep.    Hopefully he’ll get a better night’s sleep tonight. Tomorrow’s agenda…snuggling on the couch.  :)

TGIM!   :)   This week’s challenge at Cornish Heritage Farms is to make a shaped card.   I really had to put on my thinking cap for this one.  I had a few different ideas (tried to make a rocket but it looked more like a candy corn), wasted a bunch of paper and decided to simplify things and make a planet.

Hey Dude

I used a circle cutter for the planet then free-handed the ring.  The sign, ring, alien and his big eyeball are all popped up.  I dotted over all the dots, centers of the circles and the alien’s eyes with a clear 3-d gel pen.  I adhered the assembled panel to a card front then used scissors to trim around the circle shape.
