A Sad Occasion

Published by Michele Boyer at 7:00 am under Cornish Heritage Farms, My Designs

Through blogging, we “get to know” those who share our interest in papercrafting.  I don’t share a lot of personal things on my blog, but I do have a blogging friend who often speaks of her friends, her dear husband and their adventures, her children and her mom.  I was so sad to pop into her blog the other day to learn that her mom had passed away.  My heart just breaks for her as I know she was so very close to her mom.  Of course I left a comment expressing my sympathy, but I wanted to make a card as well to let her know that I’ve been thinking of her.

He Leads Me

This is one of my favorites of the Thomas Kinkade images.  I think it works for multiple occasions…wedding, anniversary, sympathy and more.

Here, I tried a little trick I learned from my friend, Julia.  I inked the stamp, then wiped a bit of ink away where I wanted to place the sentiment.  I used a baby wipe (just because that’s what was within my reach at the time) and it actually changed the color of the ink around the edges of the wiped area.  I’m not sure if I like that or not, but the idea of wiping away some of the ink is brilliant.  (Thanks, J!)

For the background (which I realize you can hardly see as I covered so much of it), I used a new backgrounder, Flowers and Lace, which will be available this Friday, November 21st.

When I asked my husband if he liked this card, he said, “It’s alright.”  Silence.   Then, “It’s purple.”  Then I also realized it has a “crooked” layer so I probably just should not have asked.  (He’s an engineer.  Everything should be straight.  And centered.)  I think my friend will like it, but now what if she hates purple…

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Well I love purple and I’m always a little off center so I think the card is just perfect. Prayers to your friend and her family.

Sorry about the loss of your friend’s mom. And I like your card! That sounds like a response my husband would make. In fact, I’m sure he has! (The response I get from him that I dislike the most is, “It’s not one of my favorites.” Of course they can’t all be favorites, but couldn’t he just say it’s ‘nice!”)

It’s beautiful and that color of purple looks so restful. I know your friend will treasure it.

Thanks for the tip on wiping away some of the ink so that you can stamp a sentiment on it.

    Hi Michele,

So sorry to hear about your friend’s loss, and what a beautiful way to express your sympathy.

I’m also going to comment on DH’s bd card–love, love, love it! The stitches are great, but I’m afraid of his “engineer brain” reaction to those crooked lines?! Just kidding!

I am sorry to hear of your friend’s loss of her mother. Prayers for her and her family. May time and memories help to lift her spirits during this difficult time. Your PURPLE card is GORGEOUS and it’s the thought and the fact that it is from you that matters!! I also really like the “Julia” idea of swiping off some of the color..I think it turned BEAUTIFUL, change of color and all!!

Okay, no one could hate this…it’s gorgeous. I’m just so sorry it’s for a sad occasion.

And I am so sorry that you are married to an engineer. LOL! Could be worse…my dh thinks he knows how to decorate! Oh, and cook too.

Lastly-great tip about wiping part of the area away…I have to rememer that!

Michele, the card is lovely and I’m sure your friend will appreciate the thought, whether she likes purple or not. TFS!

I happened upon your blog and I saw this posting. I think that your friend will be touched by your kindness and the sincerity - not the color you used. I think it is quite nice of you to put the time and effort into a lovely card.

The technique you talk about it very clever, going to have to try that one.
