Vintage Hugs, More Sickies and Twilight (the movie)

Published by Michele Boyer at 9:45 am under Cornish Heritage Farms, My Designs

Hi everyone!  TGIM!  Today’s challenge at CHF is a wordy one.  We’re to use big words, little words or both.  As you can see, I chose one tiny little word.  (Sometimes, that’s all you need.)

Hugs

OFP

I used Ranger’s Weathered Wood Distress ink for everything but the  flower stems and the tag.  I wanted to add a bit of dimension to the flowers so I stamped them a second time onto a scrap of vanilla cardstock, cut them out, distressed the edges a little and adhered them over the other flowers.   I also added a bit of shading with a gray Copic.

For a bit of sparkle (which I know you cannot see here), I added some Shimmerz paint to the flowers.  Angel Wings is the only color I have right now, but I hope to get more at some point.  I’ve decided I love that stuff!

I created the background using two of CHF’s backgrounders, Canvas and (new) Ornamental Vines.

Be sure to check out these other CHF designers to see how they used their words:

Dawn, Carole, Kim, Joanne and Lesley.

Stamps:  Cornish Heritage Farms “Nature Silhouettes” (Kim Hughes Collection), “Everyday Petites” (Mona Lisa Moments), Ornamental Vines and Canvas Backgrounders   Ink:  Ranger Weathered Wood Distress and Espresso Adirondack   Cardstock:  Prism Island Mist Dark and Light, Natural Smooth   Accessories:  Brown Marvy marker, Making Memories “Passport” trim, Prima flower, Michael’s ribbon, Basic Grey button, Shimmerz Angel Wings paint, gray Copic marker, sewing machine, safety pin.

SO…(change of subject), I had plans to see Twilight on Saturday.  I almost didn’t get to go.  (Gasp!)  Earlier in the day I had taken my son to a friend’s house to play.  The mom opened the door, greeted us with a friendly hello and my son promptly puked all over her doorstep (slightly embarassing).  Obviously, we came right back home.  THANKFULLY my husband told me I should go ahead and see the movie with my friends.  (Even though there was a chance he’d have to deal with sickness? Really? I took about one second to think about it.)  So I saw the movie.  YAY!

I thought some parts seemed a little “low budget” and I was a bit disappointed with a few things, but overall I loved it.  (I went in with very low expectations since I loved the book so much but it was definately worth seeing.)  I did laugh when I saw Carlisle.  For one thing, I expected him to be a little older (I don’t know why), but I definately didn’t expect him to be so white.  Holy cow.  That dude was pasty!  And I thought Edward didn’t need to look quite so creepy at times.  I realize these guys are vampires but aren’t they supposed to “blend in”… somewhat?

When the movie was over, I didn’t want to leave.  I wanted New Moon to start right then and there.  So I’ve now bought the Twilight soundtrack and I started reading the story for the second time.  I’ve never enjoyed a series so much.  Love, love, love it!!

If you’ve seen the movie, please let me know what you thought.  I’m curious to hear other opinions.  (Team Edward or Jacob?  It has to be Edward.  It’s just meant to be. And so complicated.  But I suppose life with a werewolf would be complicated too.  Warmer -lol- but complicated nonetheless.)  :)

By the way, my son is back to normal.  It was just another one of those 24-hour things (a replay of last weekend with my daughter).  And in case you’re wondering, he waited for me to get home from the movie before he puked some more.  (Lucky husband.)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!  (Sorry to be so windy.  I just had to talk about the movie too.)

Michele, your card is beautiful! The colours and images are so soothing!
Sorry to hear your son was ill…yucky…but happy to hear he is doing well now!
I always find going to a movie after reading the book, brings disappointment too. At least you had a nice outting with your girlfriends!!

I saw Twilight and loved it! I am 1000% Team Edward, all the way! I agree about the low budget - I think it showed in some of the special effects. But maybe since this one only took $37 million to make and they took in $70 million on opening weekend alone, New Moon will have a bigger budget!

Beautiful card, Michele! Well, thank goodness your son got sick OUTSIDE his friend’s house, rather than inside! I’m glad you got to see the movie. I’m thinking maybe I should read the books - they sure are popular.

First, I love your card! The color is wonderful and so is that beautiful ribbon! I love the embellie of the adorned flower and tiny tag…it’s so sweet!

I am planning on seeing the movie Wednesday afternoon. I have the day off (yippee!) and I thought a matinee would be cheaper and less crowded! Besides, I was too embarrassed to go see it opening weekend with a bunch of teenagers, lol! I have to say that I really feel bad for Jacob…in the book he turned into quite the bronze hunk, but I am definitely team Edward!

Glad your kids are feeling better! Have a great day!!

Fantastic card Michele and you’re quite right - sometimes one little word is all that’s needed :o) I love your colour choices and the tiny bit of contrast with the ribbon. Hope your son is fully better! Haven’t read the books and I guess we won’t have the movie for a while yet - glad it wasn’t a total let down for you, I hate when that happens!

Michelle, this card is drop dead gorgeous! I love it.

Love the muted tones in this card! It is gorgeous!

GORGEOUS card…love the colors and softness!

I LOVED the movie!!! I agree there were some definite issued, Carlisle and Jasper being 2 of them…but I Loved Alice, Bella and Rob P won me over pretty quickly as Edward (I had wondered about that casting!) And the KISS!!! WOW, best on Film EVER! I am still a little warm from it!

What a beautiful card! And YES! The movie was great - team Edward all the way. Like so many others, I was not thrilled with the casting until I saw it. LOVED the books!

First, I love your card. It’s gorgeous.

Second, I am chuckling at your description of the movie. My husband took me Friday night and I have to say I agree 100%. When I saw Carlisle I was like–dude. They went a little heavy on the make-up, didn’t they?! And, I thought Jasper’s hair was ridiculous but I thought Alice was perfect and Rosalie and Emmett were both pretty good. I thought Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson did great in their roles even though they weren’t exactly what I pictured Edward and Bella to be but I guess everyone has different pictures in their head when they read the books and the film makers cannot accommodate all of them. Some parts of the book just didn’t translate well to film. When I read it it was so real in my imagination and when I saw parts on screen (particularly the sparkly skin) it just looked like poor special effects. Overall I did enjoy it though. I came home and started reading the book again as well. :)
Although I think Jacob has his charm (Hello? Tall dark and handsome Native American. Yum.), I am team Edward. I mean Edward and Bella are destiny so you can’t argue with that right?

This is just gorgeous, Michele!! I love the colors, and how you’ve popped some of the flowers! Your background looks just like patterned paper…and it’s so beautiful!!

Good for you to have a movie night, and I’m glad to hear your son is doing better!

  14. KATon 25 Nov 2008 at 1:59 am

Team Edward all the way… I really enjoyed the movie - not as good as the book but they never are right???? Edward - boy - if I was only younger….

If you go to Stephanie Meyers website and click on her new book Midnight Sun she has the first 250 page draft of the first book from Edwards perspective… I’ve only read the first 50 pages but it explains why he looked so intense… Check it out and enjoy!!!

Oh, one more thing… If you loved this series check out Charlene Harris’s Southern Vampire series - they are even better and a bit more adult content

First off…Gorgeous card! Beautiful flowers & dimension, background, and I really love how you did the flower with all the extras, so pretty! Second, ack on your son! Glad he’s feeling better now…and yay for husband’s that offer to watch sick kids! :) Third, Twilight, I loved it…yeah, I went in knowing it was low budget, so had no big expectations, and was happy with most of it, lets hope since their making good money, they can produce an awesome New Moon! Can’t wait to see the Italy/Volturi parts…I didn’t want Twilight to end either! Omgosh the kissing scene *fans self* that was a great build up and moment! Loved the “cat” scene, lol! Loved the parts with Rob’s songs *sigh*. I’m totally 100% Team Edward, that’s why book 2 & 3 frustrated me a bit! Oh and at the dance when he bends her over and gently kisses her neck…another *sigh*! Now your making me want to see it again! :)

Michelle your card is gorgeous!!! Love it!!

I saw Twilight this weekend too. My husband thought it sucked but hes not into the books like I am so I think if you havent read the books youre not going to get the movie! I thought they did a very good job w/most of the characters except for Carlisle I agree I was shocked they had him so young! I totally agree with Edward looking creepy most of the movie!LOL! The part of the movie I was most curious about seeing was when he was in the meadow in the sunlight! It was like stickles and dazzling diamonds everywhere!LOL! Loved it! All in all loved the movie! Im team Edward too!

  17. Dee Jacksonon 25 Nov 2008 at 10:43 am

Oh this is gorgeous Michele!! I love it!

  18. bronihon 25 Nov 2008 at 1:49 pm

Love the beautiful card, Michele! Love the backgrounders together, the gorgeous ribbon and the flower treatment!

I saw Twilight Friday night and had just about the same reaction as you. I was freaked out by Carlisle - he should have been a little older and less pasty, I agree. And Jasper was a total freakazoid! Where was his calming effect on everyone…seemed like he needed it the most! But I loved Edward! And their sweet longing for each other. And Alice was perfect! I’m anxious to see how they treat the other 3 books…should be very interesting!

I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who is absolutely loving this series of books. I too went to see the movie on Saturday and I was not thrilled with it but it was pretty good. Edward was not at all like what I had in my head but he grew on me throughout the movie. I really think that this book was very difficult to squeeze into two hours and not lose so much of what makes it such a great story. I do believe that Edward and Bellas relationship was too rushed in the movie but again trying to squeeze too much in to a little time. 100% Team Edward all the way baby. Maybe in my next life I will meet an amazing vampire. Ha Ha!
