Cards for Kids (Just Sayin…)
Hi everyone! :)
Cards for kids…hmmmm. Although I like making “kid” themed cards, I don’t always want to put too much work into them. Honestly, the kids don’t (usually) care and the card will most likely end up in the trash right after it’s opened.
I made a shaker card once for a friend’s five year old daughter. I thought the child might enjoy seeing things moving inside the card when shaken. Fun for a kid, right? Yes, until it’s handed over to the younger sibling only to have it ripped to shreds with tiny beads flying everywhere. The mom told me all about it. (Really? Did I need to know that my hard work was handled so carelessly and destroyed so swiftly?) And to top it off, the mom was upset with me for giving her child something that caused a mess in her home. (REALLY??)
That situation totally changed my thought process when making a card for a child. Keep it simple. In some cases REALLY SIMPLE.
Happy Birthday
This card is kind of simple, no fancy doo-dads or moving parts, but I did put enough effort into it to carefully consider the recipient. Noone wants to hear about the destruction (or discarding) of their creative work, no matter how much effort was put into it. Just sayin…
I’ll be back tomorrow with our October JiFFy challenge! We’re a bit behind, but better late than never, right? (In this case, anyway.)
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

I couldn’t agree with you more. There are some things you just don’t need to share with people. I also tend to keep my cards for kids pretty simple. This one of yours is gorgeous! Simple yet lovely!!
Totally adorable, and perfect for a kid! The colors and layout are so much fun — no need for moving parts!
You are so right. Sometimes I think that about men too…not the destruction part, but the not caring part. Great job on the card!

Hmm, Personally, I think the mom should have been more appreciative of the effort you put into the card. The kid, however, that’s another story. I keep my own kids simple, even at 17 because I know where they end up. *rolls eyes* At least my DH appreciates my work.
LOL, cute….sorry to hear someone Told you about the destruction…it isn’t like we can stop it sometimes, but she didn’t need to tell you!!!
Great kid’s card. Sorry about your experience. I keep mine simple, too; but my finished child’s card is 4 1/4 x 2 3/4″ (half the regular size). I punch a hole in the upper corner and attach it to the present, thus saving me an envelope as well. The thought that all the card stock and paper will be tossed aside gives me the shivers but it is inevitable.
This card is brilliant for a small child, and just adorable. As for that mother…..well, I don’t believe anyone in her family would ever get another hand made card if she’d done that to me!!
This is adorable, Michele! Looks like a fair amount of effort to me! Bummer to hear about the shaker card.
How fraustrating for you to make a card just to be destroyed 5 mins later! and then to be told about it!
But I do like this card
So true, so true….kids just don’t get it (and either did this mom!!) Nevertheless, your “simple” is still SUPER!
Sheeesh! Some people just don’t get it, it’s like throwing pearls at swine!
Cute card too.
These little guys are too cute!! So sorry about your shaker card! What a shame for that Mommy to get mad about your thoughtful card (and I’m sure it was totally adorable)! Phooey on her!!
It’s not hard to see where these kids get their attitudes from when you meet their parents! The gall of some of them just blows me away! And I feel your pain. I once had my “favorite” sister in law do something similar. I made these beautiful Christening invitations for my sons party…vellum and ribbon and cardstock and stamping…printing the invite and directions all in a pretty font on nice paper. She ripped the directions off the card (literally) and shoved it in her purse-then pulled it out at the party and placed it on the table in front of her (as if she needed them anymore). I am very sure it was to irritate me. She’s good at that. Hope her broom gets a flat…
Oops, got off the subject a bit! This card is adorable! Again, your coordination of papers and colors is always fabulous! I need to case you!! Have a great day!!
ps…I don’t send this sil anything handmade anymore-nothing. plllltttthhhh!!!!!
Hello,
I think this is a perfect card for kids.No need to make changes. As i know kids always like small small things together with different bright colors. No doubt its simple but again more attractive and can make kids more happy.
