MFTeasers, Day 2

Hello.  🙂  It’s Day 2 of previews of the November releases with My Favorite Things!   Teaser prizes continue so be sure to leave comments as you visit each blog.  Every day leading up to the release on November 3rd, you could win one of two free NEW sets!  You can find the complete list of participating DT members HERE after 11 a.m. EST.

Today the team is sharing samples of Happy Thoughts and You Spin Me Additions (a complementary set to last month’s Game Night Spinner Die and Stamp Set Duo).  I had so much fun with this set, I made two samples.  But you’ll have to wait a few days to see the second one.

Dare to Be Different

This started out as something totally different, but I couldn’t get the papers worked out as I’d planned.  So my “mess” became this.  I like it after all.  🙂

I cut the spinner from dark brown cardstock and then again from cream cardstock.  Using the cream “inside” pieces, I stamped each colored block then inserted each of those into the brown wheel.  A 1 1/4″ punched circle fit perfectly inside the wheel.  I then layered the wheel atop a circle cut from the same green patterned paper, then popped it up onto a scalloped circle (cut using a Nestie).

On the inside, I stamped two more sentiments from the set, leaving plenty of room for a personal message.

Some things to remember:

Primarily Purple

Hello.  It’s time for another challenge with Kraftin Kimmie.  This week Andrea is challenging us to use lots of purple on our cards.  I don’t often use purple as I find it really hard to match accessories and such so this actually was a bit of a challenge.

Hugs and Kisses

Here I’ve used Raychel (along with her accompanying sentiment) from Kimmie’s Moonlight Whispers line.  As my daughter would say, “She’s fancy.”  🙂

After coloring her with Copics, I added sparkle to her eyelids and hair using Lilac and Buttermilk Spica glitter pens.  On her lips I added a bit of shine using a clear 3-d glaze pen.

You can see more purpley cards HERE.  And as usual,  if you want to play along, be sure to post a link to your creation on the Krafty Blog for your chance to win a free stamp from Kraftin Kimmie!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

MFTeasers, Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of previews of the November releases with My Favorite Things!   As in past months, with the previews come teaser prizes!  Be sure to leave comments as you visit each blog because every day leading up to the release on November 3rd, you could win one of two free NEW sets!  Every day!  You can find the complete list of participating DT members HERE after 11 a.m. EST.

Today the team is sharing samples of Wyatt Chillin’, Emma Celebrates and Mini Banner Day Alpha set with Die-namics Banner Strip!

Just Chillin’

I’ve used cute little Wyatt Chillin’.  Doesn’t he look so proud of his snowman?

I paper-pieced Wyatt’s hat, scarf, coat and pants as well as the snowman’s hat and scarf, adding in bits of shading with markers after the image was assembled.  I dusted the ground, snowman and air with Twinklets Diamond Dust (something Jody made me buy eons ago…I have a lifetime supply).

On my card front, I also used MFT’s Snowflake Trio Die-namics (currently out of stock) as well as the Small Scallop border.  (I used the snowflake die to cut thin acetate, running it through my Cuttlebug several times to achieve a crisp, clean cut.)

On the inside, I inked just the snowman portion of the image, omitting the part where Wyatt’s mitten overlaps the snowman.  After stamping, I drew that part back in with a marker.

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time for another challenge with my JiFFy friends.  This is how it works… One sends the paper, one sends the image, noone knows what she’ll get until she gets it.  Just for fun.  🙂

This month Lori chose this beautimous paper by SEI from their Moonrise Collection.  It’s Luminous.  Oh so pretty.   And I chose this mega-cute image by Stamping Bella, Zoe the Hearty Mug Girl.

Also, this month we are joined by Super-Stamp-Star Amy Rohl!  So glad you’re playing with us, Amy! 🙂

Zoe Peeking

I love the Bella mug girls, but I love this one especially.  I don’t know why.  She’s just so darn cute.

After I colored with Copics, I grounded her with Prismas, then popped up her bow and added tiny pearls on the mug.

I hope you’ll check out what the other JiFFy girls and our guest have done with this same image and paper!

Witchie, Witchie, Screamie, Screamie

Hello.  🙂  Halloween is just around the corner and I’ve had this cute little Tiddly Inks witch colored on my table, just waiting to be put together.  Since I have a marathon of posts coming up beginning Friday, I thought I better get to it now.

Witchie, Witchie, Screamie, Screamie

Other than the big piece of plaid, the patterned strips and blocks were leftover scraps from Cosmo Cricket’s Matilda paper pad.  I got the idea for the little face on the pumpkin from one of the other patterns in the pad.  I love the little “stitched-ish” smile.

Do you see that little black ribbon tag on the sentiment?  I added that as an afterthought.  The card was all put together and I decided I wanted to add “something.”  So guess what I did?  I stitched the whole card together when I added it.   Yep.  Stitched straight through to the back.  lol.  UGH.  (And this was right after I checked tonight’s dinner in the crockpot only to find that I’d forgotten to plug it in.)  ?????  SO…I cut the back off the card, cut around the stitches and glued the front onto a new card base.  It’s a little thick (lol) but good as new.  🙂

As usual, my image is colored with markers, and then the ground and bits of shading were added with pencils.

I’ll be back on Friday with this month’s JiFFy Challenge and then My Favorite Things previews begin Saturday!  🙂

Thanks SO much for stopping by!  (And if you’d like to make me feel better, feel free to share one of  your own stupid moments.  lol.)  Have a great day!

Political Campaigning, Just How Far Will They Go?

I’ll point out right here in the beginning that this is not stamping related.  If you’re browsing for cute, pretty pictures, you won’t find any today.  Those of you who frequent my blog know that I don’t often share much about my personal life.  You’re here, afterall, for stamping.  And those of you who really do know me, know that I do not like controversy.  I do not like conflict and I very seldom rock the boat.  I am not speaking as a Repulican or a Democrat today.  I am speaking as a mom.

My husband, son (10 yrs. old) and I decided to go out for dinner last night while our daughter (8) was having a sleepover with a friend.  My son chose Glory Days Grill, a popular sports restaurant.  It’s his favorite.

We sat down, ordered our meal.  While waiting, we’re watching different programs on the numerous tv’s all over the place.  The two screens in line of vision to my son and myself were showing an episode of Seinfeld (Fox network) and a hockey game.   My son was going back and forth between the two.  The speaker at our table was turned off so there was no sound other than the typically loud restaurant chatter surrounding us.  At one point I looked over at my son and he had a complete look of horror on his face.  Simultaneously, I hear other children seated nearby exclaiming, “Mommy!  Mommy!”  I look up at the large-screen tv showing the Seinfeld episode and right there, in full color, larger than life are pictures of aborted fetuses.   I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES.  I quickly covered my son’s eyes but it was too late.  In the background I could hear other parents comforting and offering some sort of explanation to their children.  I was APPALLED.    It was SEVEN O’CLOCK, early evening (not that ANY time of day would be acceptable)  and here was some politician trying to win people over with this graphic mess.

My son spent 80% of the rest of the evening with his head on the table, not eating his food.  Honestly, I had a hard time eating as well.  Some of the customers complained to the restaurant management but it wasn’t their fault.  I blame the politician…and the network.

Yes, our children will eventually be exposed to this type of thing, but what gives politicians the right to choose the time?  Is ten years of age appropriate?  How about seven?  Four?  Ridiculous.

If tv programs are rated, with certain shows only being aired at certain times of the night due to these ratings, why are political ads not considered as well?   This was far worse than anything I’ve EVER seen on tv, ANY time of day.  It was completely over the line.

So I spent today’s Sunday morning breakfast with my 10-yr. old son, talking about political campaigns.  And abortions.  Isn’t that nice?

I’ll be back soon with something cute.  Or pretty.  I promise.

Kraftin Kimmie, Getting Sketchy

Hi everyone!  Time for another challenge with Kraftin Kimmie.  This week it’s my turn to host.  Since my brain has been in a hundred different places lately, I picked something easy….a sketch.

If you’d like to play along, be sure to post a link on the Krafty Blog HERE for your chance to win a free Christmas Clara (as I’ve used below).

Holiday Hugs

I colored Clara with my markers then paper-pieced her dress and bows.  Afterwards, I added some shading using more markers and pencils. (Maybe a little too much.  Oops.)

Be sure to check out the Krafty Blog for more samples using this sketch. And I hope you’ll play!  🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Thanks for All That You Do

I paper-pieced my image, stamping the shirt onto the print and then the hands, books and apple again onto cream cardstock so that everything could be layered a bit more realistically.  I did make a bit of a mistake in cutting out the hands so to cover my boo-boo, I gave the sweater black trim at the base of the sleeves, which in turn created the need for the black trim at the neckline.  I think I like the sweater better that way anyway.  🙂

Along the left side of the ruled paper, I used MFT’s Notebook Edge Die-namics border die.

The set comes with a large assortment of partial phrases so it’s easy to create just the sentiment you’re looking for.  I pieced together the one I wanted (only two pieces) and finished the inside with patterned paper scraps.

Your next stop along the hop is with KERRY!  I’m sure she has something fabulous to share!  🙂

I’ve colored Miles with my markers and paper-pieced his scarf, mittens and the trim on his hat.   After piecing the image, I added bits of shading with markers and pencils…which leads me to your  next stop along the Krafty Hop– Super-Colorist/ArTEEST-Extradordinaire, LINDA HEAVENS.   (I don’t want to embarass her too much, but if I could make her name flash and sparkle, I would.)   🙂

MFT à la modes Previews, Day 2

Hello.  🙂  Today the My Favorite Things design team is featuring the second of the two new à la modes sets, What’s Cooking?, available tonight at 10 p.m. EST along with this month’s WTG VIP.  I had a bit of fun with this set so please bear with me.  Lots of photos and a little tutorial.

Happiness is Homemade

I created a card with a matching goody bag cover.  Inside the bag is some yummy granola.

On my card, I colored the girl with markers and pencils, paper-pieced the bowl and added some straight and zig-zag stitches here and there.

The inside was finished simply, adding bits of stitching to jazz it up just a bit.

My bag cover was fit to wrap around one of MFT’s large Perfectly Clear flat-bottomed gussetted bags.  (It seems ‘small’ is the only size currently available, but the pattern can easily be altered to fit any size bag.)

On the front of my bag, I used MFT’s Polka Dot Greeting Die-namics die to cut the window, and on the front of the bag and my card I used the Rolled Rose Die-namics die (currently out of stock).

Here’s a close-up of my tag combo.  I added the stitches to the sentiment tag to give it a bit more of a homemade feel (and so it would match the other one).

Here’s how I made my Goody Bag Wrap.  You’ll need two sheets of 8 1/2″ x 11″ cardstock.

Cut two strips of cardstock to fit the width of your bag.  Mine was 5 1/4″.  Measure the depth of your bag bottom. Mine was 3″ so I scored and folded one end of each piece at the 3″ mark.

Place two rows of double-sided red-line tape on one of the 3″ ends and adhere the two pieces together, overlapping the 3″ ends. This will become the bag cover bottom.  At this point, you should have one long strip, 5 1/4″ wide, with a scored middle section 3″ wide.

Place your 1/3 filled bag onto the center of the scored strip.  Bring up the front side and, holding the cardstock against the bag, mark the top of the bag.   Cut (remove) the area at that mark.

Place your goody bag back into the center of the strip.  Fold up the back and, holding the cardstock against the bag, mark the top of the bag again.  This will be your score line and will create the front fold-over flap.

Now your goody bag cover is ready to decorate.    If you’d like to die-cut a window in your bag cover, simply position your die in the desired spot and run it through your die-cut machine.  You can mark the spot using light pencil marks if that helps.  And the Die-namics will easily cut through a sheet of cardstock layered with patterned paper so layer away!  🙂

To see more samples using this fun new set, please check out Kim’s blog HERE after 11 a.m. EST.  Then I hope you’ll come back tonight for our WTG VIP hop at 10 p.m. EST, at which time the two new à la modes sets as well as the WTG VIP package will be available.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!
