Monthly Archives: November 2010

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time for my JiFFy friends and I to get together once again!    Joining us this month is Glenda Wyatt.  (Thanks for playing with us, Glenda!)

As a quick refresher on how our challenge works, one of us chooses the patterned paper, then mails to all.  Once the paper is on it’s way, another of us reveals the image she has chosen.  Lots of fun…and SOMETIMES a bit of a challenge.

This month Alli chose “Brrr” from Fancy Pants’ Tradition collection.  And Kim chose Monkey Gone Bananas by Your Next Stamp.  I will admit I was nervous once I saw what we were working with.  Snowflakes and a monkey? Yikes!  BUT…in the end, I really like how my card turned out.

Heartfelt Holiday Wishes

Luckily, Kim sent some extra images of the leaves so I was able to create a branch of sorts.  I decorated with buttons and hung the little monkey from the string, adhering him to the paper using foam boosters.

Once everything was assembled, I decided to add bit more interest by adding dots of shiny black gel pen over the monkey’s eyes and nose.

Be sure to check out the other girls’ blogs to see what they’ve done with the same paper and image!

Thinking of You Warms My Heart

This is the new Heartfelt set.  Isn’t she cute?  She’s illustrated by the same artist who created Loveosaurus.  (That set is currently sold out but you can see it here.)

I used markers to color her, then added bits of zig-zag stitching here and there where I felt “a little something” was needed.

On the inside, I used the bigger heart from MFT’s new Hearts A Plenty Die-namics die and added a bit more stitching.  Looking back, I wish I had added some stitching to the bottom left side of the heart but it’s already glued to the card and we can’t have stitching going through to the back now, can we?  (NOPE! )

It’s a Cupcake Kind of Day

Today I’ve used Hello Cupcake.  She’s so very cute holding that big ol’ cupcake.  🙂

I colored with markers, added ground with pencils and then adhered the buttons in the circle shapes on the patterned paper.  (I love when the patterns work out like that.)

Along the bottom, I used MFT’s soon-to-be-released Dainty Dots BorderDie-namics.  I love this one.  …..You need it.  😉

After coloring my image, I added some shine to the cherry, sprinkles and barrette using a clear 3-d glaze pen.

On the inside, I stamped the cupcake only, omitting the portion of the cupcake liner with the girl’s hand.  After piecing the liner, I drew in the missing lines.  The sentiment is from another Pure Innocence set, Birthday Princess.

Thank You for Being My Sunshine

I used the new Flower Silhouette Die-namics duo.  After die-cutting two flower shapes, I stamped the flower outline, colored with markers then dotted into the center a bit of dimension using a clear 3-d glaze pen.

After stamping the sentiment, I clear embossed to help it stand out against the patterned paper.

On the inside, I used scraps of the patterned papers and stamped a simple silhouette in the corner.

Seeing Spots and a Step-by-Step on Coloring Twisty Hair

Happy Saturday!  It’s challenge day with Kraftin Kimmie!  Today Kimmie is challenging us to use dots or spots on our cards.  I like dots.  🙂   If you’d like to play along, please post a link to your card here on the Krafty blog.  You could win a free Sabrina the Spinner image from Kimmie’s latest release!

Sending You Bear Hugs

I decided to use Goldilocks with her three little semi-scraggly (much loved) bears.  Since the image is a bit large, I kept the layout very simple, adding some crocheted trim, jute string and one of those border stickers I never seem to use.  I also hung a little bear charm from the bottom button.

I’ve had quite a few requests for a little “Twisty Girl hair” coloring tutorial so I took some pics as I went along.  Every time I explain how I color something, I feel the need to say that I am not an expert, there are others FAR more talented than I, and that this is just how *I* do it.  I hope it helps.

First, I always color the face/skin areas before anything else.  It’s an important area, and if I mess it up (i.e. too much color on the cheeks), I don’t want to have to start over.  Plus I use such light colors on the skin, I don’t want to risk pulling a darker color from the hair or other surrounding area onto the lighter color.

First I added Y21 to the curls, leaving some of the areas uninked .

I then added YR23, covering most but not all of the Y21.

Then I added E35, again covering some of the YR23 but not all.

Next, I added more Y21, covering the previously laid colors to blend but still leaving some of the uninked sections exposed.

Lastly, I added tiny bits of E57 along the inside edges of each curl and then blended a bit more with Y21.

So basically, I always start with the lighter color, add shading a little at a time, then blend the edges using the lighter color (or one of the lighter colors).  When there are waves (as opposed to curls), I add the darker shading in the corners of the waves, touching my marker to the corner and “wisping” out, away from the corner.   I also try to darken the area on each side of the neck because that is always a naturally darker area.

I hope that helps.  Eek!  🙂  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Let Your Dreams Take Flight

My sample today uses Tweeny Teen – You Give Me Wings.  I just adore this set, especially this little girl’s hair.  So cute.  To get the “curly” look, I colored in circles, intentionally covering the area unevenly.  I then went back with a darker marker and dotted in a bit of shading.

After coloring with markers, I added a bit of glitter to the wings using a clear Spica glitter pen.

Along the left edge on the front of the card (and the inside as well), I used one of MFT’s new Die-namics borders, Dainty Dots (available on Wednesday, December 1st).  The flowers were die-cut using Flower Trio Die-namics.

On the inside I stamped a silhouette of the girl using a light blue ink.

Keeping it Simple

Hi everyone.  🙂

I’ve been busy with design team work but wanted to take a few minutes to play with another of my new (to me) TCP sets.  I kept this very simple.  But simple is good once in a while, right?   (Or always.)

****REMOVED FOR PUBLICATION****

I used minimal markers, only adding bits of an outline on the body and shading in the face, ears, arms and legs.

I added just a little shading on the scarf to help define the folds and layers.  And the sheep panel is popped up on Jody’s foam boosters.

I’m off to place an American Girl order while there’s free shipping.  (Anything to make that stuff more affordable.)  🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Fabulous as Us

Happy Saturday!   Today is my husband’s birthday so I’m hoping for two things…that it IS a happy day and that he doesn’t have to work all day.  It’s been a long, hard month and he’s more than ready for some R&R (and hopefully a few gifts and brownies).  🙂

I ordered several new sets from The Cat’s Pajamas a while back and finally had time to play.  I think this Birthday Bunny is adorable but I especially love the sentiments that come with the set.

Hope Your Birthday is As Fabulous As Us

The actual sentiment reads “Hope your birthday is as fabulous as me” (so funny) but I omitted the “me” and changed it to “us” (still funny, I think).

I also added an extra bunny and more packages.  (Coloring done with markers and pencils.)

On the inside, I stamped the sentiment (with an extra “happy”) and added two bunnies peeking over the stripes.  (Jody made me buy the paper.)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a super weekend!  🙂

It’s Cute Card Thursday

Hello.  It’s almost the weekend and I’m sooo excited about that.  It’s been rather stressful here the last month but finally all of that is coming to an end.  **big sigh of relief**

This week Kraftin Kimmie is the sponsor of Cute Card Thursday.   I have a sample to share using this week’s sketch and one of Kimmie’s latest  releases.

Thanks Sew Much!

This is Sabrina the Spinner, one of Annie’s latest creations.  (The sentiment is from Mona the Seamstress.)  I’ve had so much fun with Kimmie’s releases this month.  I have one yet to use (Mona).

I kept things pretty simple and decided to add some stitching instead of doo-dads.

If you’d like to play along, please check out the Cute Card Thursday blog (HERE) for your chance to win a little something from Kraftin Kimmie!  🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Friendship Is…

The actual stamp consists of one (very skinny) girl holding a heart, but to go along with my sentiment, I made two.

I stamped the first onto a white MFT Perfect Paper Panel.  I then stamped again onto a masking sheet, cut it out (using a kraft knife for the enclosed areas), masked my first stamped girl, then stamped again.  Wa-la.  Two friends.  I then paper-pieced their dresses and the hearts.

On the inside, I simply completed the sentiment (and used a couple of scraps of patterned paper).

Your next stop along the hop is with KERRY.  I know she has something fabulous to share!  (She’s like that.)  🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy hopping…and shopping!
