Welcome to this month’s Creative Challenge with My Favorite Things. The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month we were challenged to use no patterned paper but to instead use stamps to build a background. Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all participating designers who have a project to share with you today!
I used Lisa Johnson’s Darling Dots to create the background on this notebook/journal and card for my daughter’s teacher. She likes purple and green. 🙂
To create the background, I inked the dots in MFT’s Jelly Bean Green, alternating with Amuse Studio Grape ink on Sweet Tooth cardstock.
Along the spine, I added a strip of Grape Jelly cardstock, scoring along the fold line so the cover will open easily.
I used Botanical Beauty Die-namics along with Grape Jelly and Grapesicle cardstocks. The “leaves” were created using Jelly Bean Green cardstock with one of the flag dies from Accent It Flags & Tags. The list was created using Journal It Top Ten with Insert It 3 x 4 Die-namics.
The ribbon/page marker was secured to the inside back cover with double-sided tape, draped through the journal and brought back out to hang over the front. I tied a charm (of sorts) to the ribbon end using hemp cord.
Typewriter Alphabet allowed for a quick personalization.
To go along with the journal, I created a card using Botanical Beauty, Flags and Tags and Horizontal Gift Card holder.
In the center of the flower I stitched a Sweet Tooth button using white string, colored with a BV17 Copic marker. (I’ll purchase a better suited gift card. I just used this one to fill the pocket for the picture.)
Since this IS a Christmas present, I stamped a sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Christmas. (Extremely non-traditional holiday colors, but I wanted the card to match the gift.)
