Nov. Creative Challenge – Projects that Warm the Heart

Hi everyone!  It’s time for this month’s Creative Challenge with My Favorite Things!  The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique.   This month we are beating the chill of the winter season with projects to warm the heart.

Using the “cool” color combo of Sweet Tooth and Sno Cone, I created a card along with a can stuffed with a few helpful winter accessories.

The cute PI from new Warm Winter was stamped onto X-Press It Blending Card, colored with Copics and cut out.  I cut away the snowball in her hand, replacing it with a small “cookie cutter” heart embellishment.  I added a strip of Icicle Border beneath the sentiment panel and layered over Darling Dots stamped in Sno Cone ink onto Smooth White card stock.  Along the bottom I added a couple of Snow Drifts.

Inside, I added a couple more Snow Drifts and stamped the girl, as well as a sentiment from PI All Occasion Sentiments, using Black Licorice ink.

To go along with the goodies in the can, I created two Heart STAX hand warmers using the largest of the hearts,  Sweet Tooth and Sno Cone felt. I stitched a snowflake onto each (from Let It Snowflake Die-namics), stitched and stuffed with a combination of rice mixed with the contents of a cinnamon tea bag and a teaspoon of salt.  Instructions for heating will be included inside the can.  (Microwave for approximately 30 seconds.)

To create the can, I used a safety can opener to remove the bottom, washed it out and allowed to dry. I decorated the can using Darling Dots and Icicle Border and used Pierced Circle STAX along with a Sophisticated Snowflake stamped in Sweet Tooth ink and white embossed.  I used a Pierced Traditional Tag, stamped a second snowflake and sentiment from PI Warm Wishes and layered atop a Traditional Tag.

Here’s a peek at the can stuffed with the hand warmers, Kleenex and lip balm.

Once everything was tucked inside, I carefully hot glued the bottom of the can back in place.
