Trick or Treat and EEK

Hi everyone!  Just popping in today with a quick and easy card with treat.  I was going to post this on Halloween, but then I thought you, too, may want to create your own bag of spider poop, a.k.a.  Nestle Buncha Crunch (theater box).  🙂

Trick-or-Treat-Spider-Poop500I used Trick or Treat stamp set designed by Miss Tiina for My Favorite Things.  The images and sentiment were stamped onto Steel Grey card stock with Sweet Tooth ink then white embossed for a chalkboard sort of look.

Trick-or-Treat-Spider-Poop-Card475Inside, I stamped the spider and web, again embossing in white.

Trick-or-Treat-Spider-Poop-CardInFor the bag topper, the word “spider” was taken from one of the sentiments in Trick or Treat, stamped using Sweet Tooth ink then white embossed.  The POOP letters were die-cut with Negative Dot Alphabet Die-namics and Sour Apple card stock.  Pinstripe Background was also white embossed.  (I used Post It tape to mask off the words before stamping.)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Additional supplies/info:  White embossing powder, enamel dots, Corner Chomper.  Finished card size 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, topper 4″ x 2 1/2″.

MFT October Creative Challenge – Cork

Hi everyone!  It’s time for another Creative Challenge with My Favorite Things. This month we’ve been asked to use cork sheets to craft cards and projects you’ll want to stick a pin in for inspiration you’ll turn to over and over.  MFT’s line of Die-namics cuts such a wide variety of materials, why not cork!

My first card uses Falling Leaves, Words of Gratitude Die-namics and Square STAX 2.

Thankful-Cork-475

After die-cutting the cork, I cut the leaves from Jellybean Green, Orange Fizz, Lemon Drop and Electric Red card stock.  “Thankful” was cut from Chocolate Brown with the “for you” stamped in Chocolate Brown dye ink using Gift Card Greetings II.

Thankful-Cork-CU

Inside, I stamped a sentiment and leaf from Fall Foliage using Chocolate Brown and Natural inks.

Thankful-Cork-In

On my second card, I used cork to create a cork board appearance.  “Grateful” was die-cut from the cork and “so very” was stamped onto a Fishtail Flags Layer using Thankful Thoughts and Kraft ink.

Grateful-Cork-475

A die-cut Fall Foliage leaf was airbrushed using Copic markers then “tacked” onto the board with an enamel dot.

Grateful-Cork-CU

Inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Thankful Thoughts with a little leaf and trail at the bottom.

worry less, giggle more, worry less, giggle more

Hi everyone!   I have a silly card to share today using this month’s TAM set, Uplifters, from Paper Smooches. (“TAM” stands for “Thanks a Million” and is free this month with any retail order of $60 or more.)

I’ve combined the giggle sentiment with the toucan from My Peeps, a branch from Hang Ups and a Quotables Die.

Worry-Less-Giggle-More-475

The sentiment was stamped in bright colors of Lemon Drop, Razzle Berry, Blu Raspberry and Orange Fizz to match the Copic markers used to color the bird.  After coloring, I gave the bird glossy 3-d eyeballs by adding Glossy Accents.

Organization for Your Creative Space – Buttons and Ribbon

Today the MFT Team is back with another installment of Organization for Your Creative Space.  This time we’re sharing our button and ribbon storage solutions.

Buttons and ribbons are tools of the trade when it comes to adding those finishing details to our projects and packages but they can quickly overwhelm us in volume and sheer number of color, shape and size options.

Let’s tackle the buttons first.  🙂

buttons-group

MFT buttons are are sold in a quantity of 3.5 ounces which fit perfectly in Ikea’s RAJTAN spice jars.  They’re sold in packs of four for just $3.49.

Button-Jar-CU

I label each jar by simply peeling the color label off the button packaging.  I trim the ends and adhere to the bottoms of the jars.  The labels look as if they are curling up on the ends but they are not.  That is just the shape of the jar.

Buttons-labels

They’re functional and pretty.  🙂

Buttons-All

I have my ribbon in a couple different locations.  Most of it is found, organized by color, in plastic drawers located just below my buttons.  I haven’t bothered to label each drawer as I can see through to the colors inside.  But looking at them now, I think they’d look better with a label.  🙂

Ribbon-Storage

I have two drawers of MFT ribbon, each card labeled with the ribbon color. (They are all handwritten as I didn’t own a label maker at the time.)

MFT-ribbon-label

On a shelf to the left, I have a ribbon carousel where I keep my crocheted/lace trims and a jar for scraps.

Ribbon-Carousel

To the left of that, I have another ribbon storage “cabinet.”

Ribbon-Cabinet-Open

I keep the doors securely closed to prevent this from becoming a big cat party.

Ribbon-Cabinet-Closed

That’s a peek into my button and ribbon organization.  Be sure to check out the MFT blog for links to other participating DT sharing their craft space today.

Congratulations

Hi everyone!  I’m back today with a card using this week’s sketch with My Favorite Things.  (And if you happened to see my accidental sneak peek of an upcoming post, I’m sorry about that.  I really should not use the computer so early in the a.m.!)

Today I decided to try something new. I embossed panels of Insulation Pink, Smooth White and Pink Lemonade using Proof  Positive Cover Up then die-cut the embossed pieces using Square Grid Cover Up.  I love the look.

Congrats-WSC199-475

I used Beautiful Baby stamp set for the sentiment and adhered a large Insulation Pink button.

Congrats-WSC199-CU

Inside, I adhered an Insulation Pink elephant, die-cut using coordinating Beautiful Baby Die-namics and added a second sentiment.

Here’s the sketch if you’d like to play along:

Paper Pumpkins

The other day, I was browsing Pinterest and came across the cutest paper pumpkins.  Today I’m sharing my MFT version.  (They were very easy to make.)

Paper-Pumpkinsdisplay

I embossed Factory Green, Brick Red and Safety Orange card stock using Swiss Dots, Small Checkerboard and Fishnet stencils.  I cut the card stock into eleven 1″ strips then punched a hole in each end.  I used my Crop-a-dile so I could punch about six at one time.  I stacked all eleven pieces then threaded brown ribbon through one end and tied a knot for the stem.  I inserted the other end of the ribbon through the holes on the bottom, pushed the card stock up (so the pieces bowed), then secured ribbon through the hole using a brad.  Fan the strips and decorate!

Paper-PumpkinsDots

I used Factory Green, Brick Red and Safety Orange ink to stamp Fall Foliage onto leaves die-cut from X-Press It Blending Card using Fall Foliage Die-namics.

Paper-PumpkinsDiamondsOnce stamped and cut, I adhered the leaves to the top of the pumpkins using dots of Glossy Accents.

Paper-PumpkinsSquares

Lastly, I cut thin strips of Factory Green card stock and curled each around a Copic marker.  (Anything small and circular works.)

Paper-PumpkinsGroup500

Thanks for stopping by today!  I’ll be back soon.  🙂

Additional supplies:  1/4″ Brown grossgrain ribbon, brads, Glossy Accents.

MFT Oct Release Rewind – Peaceful Snowflakes (and a tutorial)

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the second day of MFT‘s Release Rewind.  I have two cards to share today, plus a tutorial.  On both of my cards I used the gorgeous new Snowflake Fusion Cover-Up with Pierced Snowflakes Die-namics.  (I’m a big fan of both!)

First, I used Insulation Pink and Sweet Tooth card stock to create a soft “peaceful” holiday card.  I cut each of the circular openings, one layer at a time. The circle was cut from the snowflake panel first, then I marked that opening with a pencil onto the pink panel.  I die-cut that circle, then used that opening to mark the location on my white card base.  Once completed, all layers perfectly aligned.

Peace-Love-Joy-475r

My card features an acetate window tucked between the Sweet Tooth base and the Insulation Pink layers.  What I really like about this card is the gorgeous snowflake attached to the front of the acetate.  But how did I do that without adhesive showing on the other side?   I used this same technique on THIS blue card.   Here’s how to get a smooth, clean appearance on the back of the snowflake/other side of the acetate.

Cut a piece of X-Press It High Tack Double-Sided Adhesive Sheet slightly smaller than your card stock block.  (It’s perfect for this.  Super sticky.  It will not loosen or peel away.)  Here, I used Sweet Tooth for the snowflake.

Snowflake-Window-1

Remove backing from adhesive paper and apply to card stock, pressing firmly in all areas.  I use a bone folder to apply even pressure across the surface.

Snowflake-Window-2

Flip paper over so the double-sided paper is on the bottom.  Tape die in place.

Snowflake-Window-3

Run stack through die-cutting machine.  I use THIS thin metal shim to add just a touch of additional pressure to the stack.  (It also helps to emphasize the embossed lines on some dies, and tiny negative pieces come out much easier when the cut is made with the metal adapter.  If you don’t have one, you need one.)

Snowflake-Window-4

Remove die-cut snowflake from die and remove adhesive backing.  Many of the negative pieces will stick to the backing.  Remove any strays and adhere snowflake to center of acetate block.

Snowflake-Window-7

Using double-sided tape, adhere acetate to back of Insulation Pink panel.  See how neat and clean the back of the snowflake is?  It doesn’t even look like adhesive.  ♥

Snowflake-Window-8

Adhere panel to card front, aligning circular openings and decorate as desired.

Peace-Love-Joy-CUr

Inside, I aligned a second snowflake with the one on the front so when the card is flat and closed, it cannot be seen.  Sentiments are stamped using Merry Messages and Sweet Tooth ink then white embossed.

Peace-Love-Joy-In

And because I love these two dies so very much, I created a second card, this time using Sno Cone card stock with Sweet Tooth, and Peace, Love, Joy Die-namics for the sentiment.  (My use of Swarovski crystals was inspired by Jody’s sample here.  So pretty.)

Peace-Snowflake-Fu475

I adhered another of my favorite Pierced Snowflakes inside, along with a Merry Messages sentiment, stamped in Sweet Tooth ink and white embossed.

happy Christmas

Hi everyone!  Time for more Paper Smooches!  🙂

On my card today, I used Ornaments Dies as well as Christmas Words 2.

Happy-Christmas-475

I sized the card a little larger than usual (5″ x 6 1/2″) to accommodate the greeting and hanging ornaments.

Happy-Christmas-CU

The scalloped border was a pre-fab die-cut included with the Kaiser Craft Mistletoe paper pad.  That fab grey woodgrain paper is from Echo Park’s Summer Bliss collection.  (I was thinking outside of the seasonal box here.)  And the gold is a piece I picked up from Michaels.  I’m not sure of the manufacturer.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I’ll be back tomorrow!

MFT Oct. New Product Launch – HO³

Welcome to MFT‘s October New Product Launch!  All new products you’ve seen previewed over the last week are now available to you right HERE!

Be sure to visit each of the MFT Designers’ October Product Launch posts linked on the MFT Blog and leave a comment by the end of the day on Thursday, October 16th for your chance to win one of two $100 Gift Vouchers. (You can do some fun shopping with $100!) The winners will be chosen at random and the prizes will be sent out on October 17th.

I have three cards to share tonight, all using Birdie Brown’s new Jingle All the Way.

On my first card, I stamped the Santa onto X-Press It Blending Card, colored with Copics and adhered a string of bells to his finger.  (He’s jammin’.)  Across the top, I added a strip of Plaid Background Builder using Electric Red and Steel Grey inks, topping off with an Electric Red button.  The scalloped border is from Blueprints 19.

Jingle-Bell-Santa-475

The string was dyed using a Copic maker and the bells are stitched in place with a dot of Glossy Accents for added stability.

Jingle-Bell-Santa-CU

Inside, I added a bit of leftover plaid, sentiment and image.

Jingle-Bell-Santa-InOn my next card, I used Jingle All the Way stamp set with coordinating Die-namics, Stitched Square STAX and a scalloped “awning” from Blueprints 8.  The top (pink) layer was cut from X-Press It Blending Card and colored with a Copic marker to match colors used in the image.

Santa-Favorites-475

On the tree, I adhered tiny pink gemstones.

Santa-Favorites-CUInside, I added a tiny star, die-cut using Blueprints 8 and colored with a Copic marker.

Santa-Favorites-In

The sentiment idea on my last card was taken from the Jingle All the Way stamp set, but I wanted the letters more pronounced so I die-cut them from Electric Red card stock using High Rise Uppercase Alphabet and Negative Dot Numbers Die-namics, highlighted in a Speech Bubble Frame.

To create the snow, I used Snowfall background,  stamped in Sweet Tooth ink then white embossed.

HO3-475

To create the smaller frame, I die-cut the shape once, then taped the die-cut bubble back into the die, adjusting the position so the top was recut to the desired height.  (Clear as mud?)

HO3-CU

I stamped a second sentiment and image inside, again using Sweet Tooth ink and white embossing.
