Hi everyone! I have two cards to share today, each using Copic‘s Opaque White in two different ways.
Opaque White is a water-based pigment that will not bleed into your base color so it’s perfect for adding any sort of bright white detail to your work. I usually use it over Copic marker. It works well over any permanent ink as well as watercolor, and can be thinned with water for added effects.
My favorite use of Opaque White is to add tiny white patterns to clothing. It’s very easy and adds interest/detail to a solidly colored area.
To prevent any sort of contamination, I first scooped a tiny amount of Opaque White onto a palette then dipped the slightly rounded tip of a white pencil into the pigment and dotted over the dress to create the pattern.
On my second card, I used Opaque White to add highlights to the birthday girl’s hair, dress and boots after coloring with Copic markers.
When I color, I try to leave white areas to show as highlights, but this is not always the easiest way to add fine detail. Sometimes the areas are so small, it’s difficult to leave the area white.
Below, you can see that I first colored the girl’s hair in shades of brown. I think it looks ok, but I prefer the look of white highlights. I also wanted to brighten the dress a bit and brighten the highlights on the boots.
I used a very small paintbrush dipped into Opaque White then applied the pigment to the hair, dress and boots.
Opaque White with a fine liner brush would be the perfect choice for adding highlights in these areas. I have the 30cc jar so I used my own small brush which actually is not as small as I feel I need but I’m happy with the results. (Note to self: Buy a smaller brush.)
Thanks so much for visiting today!
