An Organized Crafty Stash, Day 4 of 5 – Card Stock

5Days_BlogHeader

Hi everyone! Welcome to another installment of Five Days to an Organized Crafty Stash with My Favorite Things!  Today we’re sharing our ideas for managing card stock.  I have a lot so it’s stored in a few different locations.

Several years ago, I was doing all my stamping from my dining room table.  As you can imagine, I quickly outgrew that (plus it was an eyesore). During that time, I was offered a really big job, I worked hard, saved my money and bought a very nice project table with storage on each side.  I ♥♥♥♥♥ it. On this side, I keep a rainbow of card stock from which I pull on a daily basis.

Card-Stock-FrontI “file” my card stock packages with the label out so I can be certain of what I’m grabbing while flipping through.

CS-2-labelsI also open my packages from the bottom (near the label) so I can easily access the extra cut pieces I store in the package.  I’ve started writing the coordinating Copic color on the label as well.

CS-5-Lable-Opening

Since I use whites and black most frequently, I keep them on a shelf behind where I stand to stamp so they are very accessible.  (Yes, I stand.)  🙂

CS-3-Basic-ColorsOn the other side of my table, I use the bottom shelf to store all of my “extra inventory.” (I didn’t take a photo of the entire side because it’s not as pretty.)  😉

An Organized Crafty Stash, Day 3 of 5 – Die-namics

5Days_BlogHeader

Hi everyone! Welcome to another installment of Five Days to an Organized Crafty Stash with My Favorite Things!  Today we’re sharing our ideas for managing Die-namics.

Necessary statement:  I attribute 90% of my stamp room organization to Jennifer McGuire and her incredibly creative and brilliant ideas.  I cannot thank her enough. (You can find her info on die organization here.)

I purchased two of these refrigerator bins from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They’re a bit pricey (for bins) but worth every penny.  (Plus I had a coupon for each.) I use one bin for dies and a second for stamps.

Michele Boyer/Die-namics Organization

Here’s a close-up of my labels.  The categories are basically in order of most used. (I hate to dig through things.)

Michele Boyer/Die-namics Organization Labels

I use this label maker and tape to label my Blu Raspberry dividers. I’ll eventually switch the dividers out for something more sturdy but for now they work great!

I accidentally bought black on white tape once so you may notice a white label. I’m not picky enough to peel it off and replace, but I do prefer clear.

ETA:  Free downloadable files are now available HERE for printing labels for MFT stamps, dies, stencils, etc.

Michele Boyer/Die-namics - Label MakerI purchase these magnetic sheets from my local Home Depot (about $4), cut to size and adhere to Sweet Tooth card stock to place in each sleeve.

Michele Boyer - Magnetic Sheets (Vent Covers)

I had originally used three types of sleeves for my dies but I’m transitioning down to two.  And they just happen to now be available here in the MFT store.  🙂

Here’s a sample of my dies on the magnetic sheets. *So happy*

Michele Boyer - Die-namics Stored on Magnetic Sheets/Clear Pockets

I keep the label maker on my desk but everything else is stored in a basket on a shelf over my dies.

Michele Boyer/Organization Supplies Storage

I cannot begin to tell you how great this system works for me. It took a while to get organized as I already had a LOT when I started but it was worth every minute, every penny. I already thanked Jennifer once, but I will thank her again.  And again. And again. ♥

An Organized Crafty Stash, Day 1of 5 – Stamps

5Days_BlogHeaderToday My Favorite Things kicks off Five Days to an Organized Crafty StashEach day we will highlight a different area of the craft room and share ideas for putting everything in its place. To make it even more fun, two prizes will be given on Days 1 through 4 with one Grand Prize on Day 5.  (And believe me, it is g-r-a-n-d!) For your chance to win one of these AMAZING prize packages, be sure to leave a comment on each day’s Organization post on the MFT Blog.

Necessary statement:  I attribute 90% of my stamp room organization to Jennifer McGuire and her incredibly creative and brilliant ideas.  I cannot thank her enough. (You can find her info on stamp organization here.)

I file most of my stamps in this bin from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Michele Boyer - Stamp Organization

Each stamp set is placed into one of these clear pockets and filed under the appropriate category.

Michele Boyer- Stamp Set in pocket

If the set has coordinating Die-namics dies, I adhere a magnetic sheet to the back of the white insert so all pieces are kept neatly together.

Michele Boyer/dies stored behind stamp set in pocket

I use these vent covers (magnetic sheets) available from Home Depot for about $4 per pack.

Org-Mag-sheets

Pure Innocence sets are filed in a basket on one of my shelves, sorted by holiday, birthday,  miscellaneous, etc.

Stamps-3-PIsBackground stamps are stored in a basket as well.

Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine Special Thanks! Blog Hop

Hi everyone.   Welcome to another stop along the Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine Special Thanks hop!    If you’ve just popped into my blog, you may want to go back to the
beginning as you’ve missed many, many tributes.  If you’ve just come from Annabelle O’Malley, then you’re right on track.

1papercraftshop1-(1)

Paper Crafts has held (and always will hold) a special spot in the hearts of so very many crafters.  Paper Crafts was the very first magazine I remember picking up when I began this craft, which has turned into so much more for me.  To have played even a small roll in Paper Crafts’ journey (legacy, really) has been an honor.   It’s hard to imagine this industry without them.

I chose peach roses for my card today, peach signifying sincerity, gratitude and thankfulness.

Glad-We-Met-500

I’m thankful for each and every opportunity Paper Crafts has provided to me over the years, the acceptances and yes, even the rejections. 🙂  They made me a better crafter and for that, I am grateful.  I’m thankful I was able to meet some of the Paper Crafts folks years ago.  A true pleasure, it was.

Glad-We-Met-CU

Paper Crafts, I’m glad we met.  While it is sad now, closing this chapter, I  know that each of you will move on to something just as great.  I wish all of you the very best.  Cheers, and XOXO.

If you haven’t yet checked out the tribute slideshow, please do so here. It’s amazing.

Your next stop along the hop is with Clare Buswell.  (You can find the list with all links by clicking on the Inlinkz icon below.)

Also, I want to send a  big thanks to Taheerah for putting this whole thing together.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Scrapbook & Cards Today Fall 2014

Have you seen the Fall issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today?   What a gorgeous cover!

SCT_fall_2014_cover_2

The fall issue is now available in select stores and on-line, for free, right  HERE. (I might have a little something in the Reader’s Gallery).   It’s a  beautiful publication.  I hope you’ll check it out.  🙂

Inspired by…

Hi everyone.  I’m sure you’ve seen the Creative/Inspirational blog hop threading throughout blog land.  I am so incredibly flattered to have been nominated by my friend Broni Holcombe as someone who inspires her. What an honor!

My Photo

I’ve admired Broni’s work for such a very long time, since our days in SCSs Dirty Dozen.  Maybe even before that.  Lately I’ve been admiring Broni’s water colored projects, like this.  And this.  And especially THIS.   I will be breaking out the watercolor paper very soon.  I had the pleasure of meeting Broni a few years ago. She is so sweet, and SO funny in addition to being so very talented.

You can find Broni’s Inspiration post here. Along with this honor, Broni asked that I answer a few questions and share some other artists who inspire ME!

1.    What am I working on?  It’s been an incredibly busy time here so I’ve been working on design team projects for My Favorite Things and Paper Smooches pretty much non-stop…and at the last minute.  I usually have my work completed ahead of time as stress does nothing for my creativity.  But this month things haven’t exactly worked out that way. I’m also trying to toss in some publication submissions so  there are several things all going on at once.  (You don’t want to see my stamp table or desk.  It’s scary.)

2.  How does my work differ from others of its genre?  I try to think outside of the box as often as possible, so maybe that is how my work is different?  (I’m not really sure how to answer that as I don’t think I’m very different at all.)

3.  Why do I create what I do?  I’ve always been a rather creative person.  To me, it is very satisfying to have a pile of supplies on my table and come up with something I’m proud to share or send to a friend.  I also love to color and try to incorporate some form of Copic ink into my projects when possible.  My new craze is the airbrush so you’ll be seeing more of that.  I’m so excited to ditch the cans!

4.  How does your creative process work?   I often get ideas in the middle of the night.  I don’t know why.  It’s strange, but sometimes I’ll wake up and my mind just kicks into overdrive.  Or I’ll be driving one of my kids to some sort of practice or game and things just pop into my head.  There are also times when nothing seems to work (like right after vacation–Worst.  Time. EVER).  Then I’ll check out Pinterest or some favorite blogs and/or sketches to try to get the creativity flowing again.

Whew.  That was hard.  🙂

Now for the easy part!  I get to share a couple artists who inspire ME.  🙂

Barbara Anders  –  Paper Pursuits

1-barbara

Barbara can do anything.  Clean and simple, shabby, water color, videos.  😉   Any style of paper crafting.  She’s like a paper magician!  (lol)  I literally love everything she creates.  Barbara is also a wonderful person.  I’ve met her a couple times, once I believe with Broni.   She’s kind, helpful, funny and quick-witted.  Another friend I wish I had more time to spend with/laugh with.  If you haven’t been to Barbara’s blog, you must.  She’s amazing.

Lori CraigMake a Difference

1-lori

Lori’s style is like a breath of fresh air to me.  I’m not quite sure how to describe it… A little scrappy?  A little clean and simple?  Always fresh.  Does that even make sense?  She’s an amazing colorist as well.  I’ve been lucky enough to get to know Lori over the years and I’m proud to say she is a great friend who inspires me both creatively and personally.

Thanks so much to Broni for nominating me!  I truly am flattered.  And please check out Barbara and Lori.  You won’t be disappointed!  Have a great day!

Cards, Anyone?

**GONE**  Thank you!

Any gamblers out there?  I have six “video” Priority Mail boxes filled with cards (approximately 20-30 each) that I want to get rid of.

$20 each, which INCLUDES shipping —  U.S. addresses  ONLY PLEASE as  I need to be able to print the labels myself and have the mailman pick-up from my door.  PAYPAL ONLY.

Subtracting an average of $6 for shipping, that averages to about 61 cents per card (based on 23 in box, but some have more).

If you’re a frequent visitor of  my blog, you know the types of cards included. They have all been on my blog.  Lots of Pure Innocence, à la modes, Wendy Burns Designs, Birdie Brown (lots of Copic coloring), but definite mix of others.   Some are new, some are older.  I like them all.  I just can’t use/keep them all.

I can be reached at [email protected].   Thank you!

Copic in the Classroom – Sharing Crafty Spaces

Hi everyone!  Today each member of the Copic education and blog team will be joining up for a virtual tour of their crafty spaces in celebration of a new Copic program.

Copic in the Craft Room is a new community brought to you by Imagination International Inc., distributor of Copic products in the United States and Canada.

Our program goals are:

  • To Inspire Copic crafters, both new and experienced, to use their Copic products and get crafty.
  • To Educate crafters, no matter their skill level, teaching proper product use for success and new ways to use Copic products.
  • To Grow both as a community and as individual crafters.

Since getting crafty can take place anywhere, we thought it would be fun to share our own crafty spaces.  I cleaned, just for you.  Please come in.   🙂

My craft room is technically our “library/office.”  Luckily there are doors to close when I’m super-messy (which is most of the time).

I have shelves and a desk, wrapping around two walls with a large craft table in the center. On the left and right sides of my craft table, there are cubbies where I store my MFT card stock, magazines and  baskets holding 6×6 paper pads.  In the second side of my table I store Copic supplies, extra/unopened packages of card stock, embossing powders, heat gun and other miscellaneous supplies.

Above is the view just inside the door and to the left.  I have baskets holding stamps and alterables, some 12 x 12 card stock, felt and bins of various embellishments.  In the corner piece I have baskets which hold some MFT stamps (separated by line).  Below the baskets I have ribbon and miscellaneous brads and buttons.  More storage below.  🙂

To the left of my desk there are more baskets, some holding my daughter’s craft supplies, some holding more stamps.  I have a little “embellishment rack” my husband made, holding brads, etc. from Clip-It-Up clips.  MFT buttons are stored in little Ikea jars and below more ribbon.

Next is my desk, where I rarely sit other than to update computer files.  Above I have some favorite cards and projects (some of my own, some from friends).  At the bottom of the picture you can see our nosy little kitty peeking around the corner.   🙂

Moving to the right, I have my most used/basic colors of card stock…whites, creams, black, kraft and Blending Card.  Nice and handy.  Below the paper I have color charts, sketches and MFT inks.  On the next shelf down is my favorite new Die-namics organization (with blue dividers).  ALL of my dies (and I have a LOT), along with coordinating stamp sets are filed neatly away.  I can’t tell you how happy I am with this.  ♥   I can see and find everything so quickly and easily. Thank you, Jennifer McGuire.  You are a rock star and I bow to your creativity and knowledge.  (You can find her post HERE.)

Spinning around to the center of the room is my work area.  I have my Vagabond on the left, Copics front and center (where they belong) and miscellaneous tools on each side.  (I’m challenging myself to keep my space at least close to this neat and tidy.)

Behind my work space is my photo booth.  (I keep the smaller cube inside to keep the cat out.)  There isn’t much on the wall to the left other than a big bay window looking out into our backyard.

Click the links below to hit the cyber roads and travel all across the continent to see where the rest of the team makes the magic happen.

Be sure to stop at the Copic in the Craft Room Facebook page and like us to share your own crafty spaces photos.  Check us out of Pinterest too!

Thanks for visiting my crafty space! 🙂
