Category Archives: Just for Fun Challenge

It’s JiFFy Time (Better Late Than Never)

Hi everyone!  My JiFFy friends and I are here today with our September challenge.  We’re a wee bit late but that’s ok.

Just to refresh your memory on how our challenge works, one of us chooses the paper, places it into the mail to everyone and then another of us chooses an image without knowing the paper choice.  Sometimes it’s a good mix, sometimes not.  That’s what makes it a challenge but it IS just for fun.

Speaking of fun, joining us this month is Lisa Silver, another of our former farm buddies (ha!).  We’re excited you’re playing along, Lisa!! 🙂

This month Carole chose the paper, Dried Egg Noodles from Jillibean Soup’s Chicken Noodle Collection.  I love their pattern names.  Some are so funny…and ALL are wonderful!  Once the paper was on it’s way, Julie revealed that she had chosen So Thankful by Hero Arts.  So cute!

Thanks for Being You

I made two. This (above) was the second.   I liked the first one until I took the picture and then thought maybe the image panel was way too big.  Or maybe the brown matting wasn’t big enough.  Maybe it’s just too much white space.   Here it is (below).  You decide.   I think I like both but prefer the one above.

(Thanks for sending the extra images, Julie!)

The paper is double-sided with a nice yellow plaid on the reverse, but I decided to stick with only the red.  (The dreaded red…oh no!)  I figured the area to color was pretty minimal so it wasn’t too terribly scary.  I did color EVERYTHING else first, including the background shading, before picking up the red markers.  I hate when another marker barely touches the edge of a red area and then drags out the red into your other color.   Grrrr…  I’m sure it’s just my inexperience.

Be sure to hop on over to see what the other JiFFy girls (and our JiFFy guest) have done with this same stamp set and paper!  I can’t wait to see for myself!

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time to get back together with my JiFFy friends!  This month Kim sent to everyone this lovely “Sunshine” paper from Echo Park’s A Walk in the Park line.  Once the paper was on it’s way to everyone, I revealed that I had chosen Willow Writing Recipes by Whiff of Joy.

Missing You

   JFFMY2

I decided my girl was writing in a journal instead of writing recipes.

I had a bit of a hard time coloring her shirt.  I wanted to use the yellow, but I didn’t want it to be quite as bright as the paper.  I have a hard time with the darker and brighter colors.

    JFFMYCU

Along the side I used more of the “unknown” felt flower trim, adhering each flower with a tiny brad.  And on the patterned paper, I added a tiny dot of brown in each flower center.

Be sure to check out what the other JiFFy girls did with this same image and paper!  I can’t wait to see for myself!

JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time to get together once again with my JiFFy friends!  This month we have a special guest joining us, Dana Seymour.   (Check out her blog.  Her work is incredible!)

This month Julie sent each of us this cute plaid/pink paper by We R Memory Keepers.  Once the paper was on its way to everyone, Alli revealed that she had selected the chair from Papertrey Ink’s Chair-ished.  I used the chair and added in some elements from PTI’s On My Couch.  (What a great pair!)

Let’s Get Together!

   PTILGT

I paper-pieced my chairs and coffee cups, adding a bit of shading with a gray marker.  There’s a tiny brad in place of the tack holding the picture and the sentiment is clear embossed over black ink to help the words stand out a bit better on the pink paper.  Along the bottom of the card I layered the Jumbo Scallop Die-namics border die by My Favorite Things.

Be sure to check out what the other JiFFy girls did with this same paper and image!  (Lori is super-busy and taking a bit of time off.  Hugs to you, my friend!)

June JiFFy

Hello.  It’s time for a June JiFFy challenge with my JiFFy girlfriends.  And this month we are joined by the fabulously talented Michelle Woerner.   Thanks for playing with us, Michelle!  🙂

It was my turn to choose the paper this month.  I selected “Shabby Flower” by The Girls’ Paperie.  Once the paper was on its way to everyone, Carole revealed that she had chosen Elzybells Surfer Girl.

Have a Sizzlin’ Summer!

       JFFSS

I kept my card fairly simple.  The little flower was cut from a string of felt flowers.   (I have no idea of the manufacturer.  I ordered it from an on-line store long ago when purchasing some patterned paper.)

I hope you’ll check out the other JiFFy girls to see what they’ve done with this same image and paper.

On a side note, I want to thank those who left comments and emailed me about my sweet grandma.  I’m sorry to say that she passed away yesterday afternoon, surrounded by loved ones.  I feel so lucky to have had her in my life for so long.  (I’m so lucky, in fact, that I still have my mom’s mom, another tremendously sweet lady.)   Although my grandma will be missed terribly, it comforts me to know that she’s with my grandfather and my dad.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I truly appreciate your visits and friendship.

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time for another challenge with my JiFFy girlfriends!

For the paper, this month Lori chose “In Love” from the So Sophie Collection by My Mind’s Eye.  Love it!   (But then I think I love just about everything by MME.)  Once the paper was selected and on it’s way to everyone, Kim revealed that she had chosen Tweeny Tween Rock On from My Favorite Things’ Pure Innocence line.  It’s every bit as cute as the little PI girls!!

You Rock My Socks

    ofp

I paper-pieced the beanbag and the girl’s pants and colored the rest with markers.  This was my first attempt at the wonky ruffled trim so I’m not sure if it worked or not.  I think it looks ok.  Maybe.

I stamped the sentiment on the inside then stamped the girl using Ranger Antique Linen Distress ink, stamping off first onto scrap paper.  (Those lines below her are part of the patterned paper.  They aren’t stamped lines.  I know it looks a bit weird with her legs just above those at the bottom.)

Be sure to check out what the other girls did with this same paper and image!  As always, I can’t wait to see for myself!  I always look so forward to this “challenge.”  It is Just For Fun!  🙂

Lori’s schedule got kind of wacky and she was unable to post today.  She’ll be around next week with her JiFFy card so I hope you’ll check back for that.

April’s JiFFy

Hi everyone!  It’s time for April’s JiFFy challenge with my JiFFy friends!  I know it seems like we just did this, but last month’s was a bit late and this month’s is a bit early.  🙂

It was Alli’s turn to choose the paper and she selected these gorgeous new Quite Contrary patterns by My Mind’s Eye.  I can’t get enough of it!  (I love MME.)  It was my turn to choose the image so once the paper was on the way to everyone, I revealed that I had chosen Stamping Bella ‘s Izzie Has a Daisy.  When I first saw Izzie, I knew that when it was my turn to choose the image for our challenge, I’d choose one of her.  She’s SO sweet!  🙂

Hello

          SBHID

After coloring Izzie with markers, I added some dots to her dress using a white opaque pen.  A black 3-d glaze pen added some glossy buttons to her jacket.

I finally decided to stop hoarding the velvet flowers and used one here.  To add little “leaves”, I looped two scraps of ribbon and tucked them beneath the flower, securing with glue dots.

Be sure to hop on over to see what the other JiFFy girls did using this same pretty paper and image!

It’s JiFFy Time!

Hi everyone!  It’s time for a March challenge with my JiFFy friends!  Just as a refresher, here’s how it works.  One of us chooses the paper and another chooses the image.  The challenge is that we never know what we’re getting until we get it.  Noone reveals their choices. It’s always a surprise.  And the fun part is that it is Just For Fun.

This month Carole sent to everyone this fab “Brown Rice” paper from Jillibean Soup’s Old World Cabbage Stew collection.  Once the paper was on it’s way, Julie revealed that she had chosen this adorable Picnic with Little Red image from My Cute Stamps.  Another perfect match!  Whew!  🙂

Smile

    JFFSmile

After coloring my images, I cut them out, using an Xacto blade to remove the enclosed areas.  To create my “grass,” I used my super-sharp, super-nice ribbon scissors(#4) (which I keep hidden from my little crafter) to clip along one edge of a strip of green velour ribbon.   I JFFSmileInstitched around the edges, then added my images, popping them up on foam dimensionals.

I had a few scraps of the paper left and couldn’t bear to throw them away so I decided to finish the inside.  (I used cardstock for my grass here.)

Be sure to check out what the other JiFFy girls created using this same paper and image!  I’m always so excited to see for myself!  🙂

JiFFy Time–All Caught Up

Just in the knick of time, my JiFFy friends and I are squeezing in our February challenge.  This month I sent to everyone “Inspiration” from Cosmo Cricket’s new Material Girl collection.  Once it was en route, Lori revealed that she had chosen this adorable Crafty Cuppie image from Taylored Expressions.   I think it’s a perfect match!

Do Something Creative Everyday

   CCED

I used my Nestabilities to create a scalloped frame for my image, then cut a circle from the peachy-pink paper to place behind the image and scallops.

TECCCUOn the actual stamp, there is a plain piece of paper in the center of the table.  I used the little cuppie with hearts from one of the other images in the set to create a sort of “stamped piece” for this crafty cuppie.  She’s making a love card. 🙂

Please check out what the other JiFFy girls created using this same image and paper!

It’s JiFFy Time!

My JiFFy friends and I are back for another challenge!  This one was pretty easy though.  Julie chose this fab Henna paper from Basic Grey’s Origins collection.  Once the paper was on it’s way to everyone, Alli revealed that she had chosen Charlotte from Kraftin’ Kimmie‘s Moonlight Whispers line.  (You probably already know how much I adore Charlotte so using her for this challenge was a treat.)

Sending You Smiles

   KKCJFF

I didn’t do anything extraordinary here.  Just colored with Copics and Prismacolor pencils as usual.

KKCJFFCUI don’t know why, but I really like to color her hair.  Today she’s blonde with some darker “low lights.”  🙂

I added a few tiny brads in the upper and lower corners of the patterned panels but they’re hard to see.  And I popped up the whole front panel (again, as usual).

I placed the sentiment on the inside of the card, finishing it simply with some sponging and leftover scraps of the patterned paper.

Happy New Year from the JiFFy Girls!

My JiFFy friends and I are back with our final Just For Fun challenge of 2009!

This month Kim chose a soft vintage paper from My Mind’s Eye’s 29th Street Market Collection.  Once the paper was on it’s way to everyone (and before she revealed her choice), Carole let us know that she had chosen New Year Sprinkle from The Cat’s Pajamas Make Merry set.

I will admit that when I first learned of the choices this month, my first response was an audible “GASP!”  How in the world do I make The Cat’s Pajamas work with a vintage print???  It was a little scary…but that’s what makes this challenge fun…and interesting.  We just never know what type of combination we’ll end up with.  🙂

My first intention was to go with the more plain back side of the paper, but I decided to stand tall, be brave and use the floral side.

Happy New Year

              JFFTCP4

I colored the hat band and banner to match the floral print and added three accents of Swarovski black pearls.  Sprinkle is looking pretty snazzy in the top hat so I thought the black pearls were appropriate.

JFFTCPCU4I colored and cut out an additional banner, popping up the center with a small piece of a foam booster.  The thinner portions of the banner are glued down while the ends are bent up just a tad to add a bit more dimension.

Be sure to check out the other JiFFy girls to see what they’ve done with this same image and paper.  I’m always excited to see for myself! 🙂
