Hey Chick!

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

Monday, monday, nah nah, nah nah nah….  I have that song stuck in my head.  (Sorry…now you probably do, too.)  Just be glad you can’t hear me singing it. :)

Hey Chick!

HCMFTToday, I used the My Favorite Things Monday sketch and the new MFT set, Eggstra Special Easter

I have a *lot* of fairly old patterned paper so I decided this week I’m going to use it (or at least some of it).  The saffron-ish solid on the back of the print made it easy to choose a coordinating color.  I paper-pieced the tulips as well as the leaves.  I just colored over the leaves with a very light gray marker to give them a bit of a darker tint without too green.  The grass I just scribbled in with a marker and the bigger chick is raised on pop dots.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Cardstock:  SU Very Vanilla   Patterned Paper:  My Mind’s Eye Tres Jolie “Bright Floral/Jaune Papier   Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Eggstra Special Easter”   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Copic markers, black SU marker, WeR Memory Keepers Pewter hardware, pop dots.  Card size 5 ½” x 4 ¼”.

Bendy Ovals and Happy Trails

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

Good morning!  My Favorite Things has two fun new releases this week, Punch a Bunch and Ride Em’ Cowgirl available Wednesday, March 5.  Check out the MFT forum for details!

Bloomin’ Wonderful

BW3This card uses the new Punch a Bunch set which is actually designed to be used with the Marvy oval punches.  There are oval frames, words to fit inside the frames and several sets of flowers and stems.

I chose to use one of the word strips, bending it a bit into the shape of a flower petal.  (It reads “Hope your day is bloomin’ wonderful.”)  I then stamped one of the flower bunches in the center and added the tiny white brads as accents.  The flower itself is raised on foam squares, as is the panel beneath it.

Cardstock:  SU Soft Sky, Papertrey Ink white   Patterned Paper:  SU Afternoon Tea DSP  Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Punch a Bunch”    Ink:  SU Soft Sky   Accessories:  Queen & Co. white sprinkle brads  white taffeta, foam squares.  Card size 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”.
Happy Trails

HT

And here’s Ride Em’ Cowgirl!  How fun!  I stamped the girl onto Naturals Ivory cardstock twice… once for the base and once for the arm and rope.  I stamped the dress portion on the blue paper, the boots on brown and the ground on green.  I cut the arm and rope as one, only adhering the arm and top of the rope, then I lightly bent the ends of the rope so they’re slightly lifted from the card.

ETA:  If you decide to sponge AFTER you put the card together, you might want to mask the arm… otherwise you’ll have a girl with a hairy arm.  Don’t look too closely.  lol.)

Cardstock:  SU Chocolate Chip, Naturals Ivory   Patterned Paper: We R Memory Keepers Boho Chic Luscious Lace and Funky Fix  Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Ride Em’ Cowgirl”    Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black, Ranger Walnut Distress   Accessories:  Copic markers, SU Chocolate Chip marker, mat pack/needle, hemp, Karen Foster Cowboy charm, pop dots.  Card size5 ½” x 4 ¼”.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Three Peeps, a Chick and a Crack

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

Happy (wacky) Wednesday!  I thought it would be fun to once in a while have a day of being wacky…using stamps in a way that maybe they weren’t intended.  I’ve had a couple of goofy ideas using stamps from My Favorite Things.  (I know that comes as a shock to some of you. lol.)  They’re just so much fun!

Three Peeps

YKS1This first card uses the new sets Eggstra Special Easter and Twisted Sentiments.   I thought it would be cute to have the egg tipping just a bit too far with the little peep looking up awaiting his fate.  Hopefully the balancer is more talented than it appears and all will be well.

Along the bottom I used two of the tiny running chicks from Hoppy Easter.  I colored the image with Copic markers and added the white dots with a gel pen.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (white), SU Apricot Appeal   Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce “For Peep’s Sake”   Stamps:  MFT Eggstra Special Easter, Twisted Sentiments, Hoppy Easter   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black, SU Groovy Guava   Accessories:  Copic markers, white taffeta, mat pack/needle, white gel pen, pop dots.  Card size 5” x 5”.

I often look at things and see something other than it’s intended purpose…you knew that, right?  Well…

The Expected…A Chick

BRTHI didn’t spend much time on this card, but I wanted to show what the original image looks like (in case you didn’t already know).  The stamps are part of the Serenity Now set by My Favorite Things.   The first time I used this image I paper-pieced, as I did here.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (white), SU Chocolate Chip   Patterned Paper:  Basic Grey Pheobe Paper Pad   Stamps:  Serenity Now by My Favorite Things   Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Copic markers, ribbon, American Crafts Chestnut mini brads, pop dots.  Card size 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”.

The UNexpected…A Crack

CRCKBut somehow, amid all of my cutting and putting back together, I saw a butt.  It’s the same image as above, but instead of cleavage, there’s a crack.  I simply drew in a couple leg lines and there it was.  Go figure!

I thought it would be funny to make a “belt” on the card (since it is obviously missing from the pants) and in doing so, I actually  learned something new.  I didn’t know how to put eyelets on ribbon without the ribbon pulling in on each side, but I figured it out.  I marked the spot where I wanted the eyelet, then I folded the ribbon in half one way, cut a small incision with my scissors, opened the ribbon and folded it the other way, cutting another small incision across the first one (like a little x).  By doing this, a small hole is created, just big enough for the eyelet to fit and there are no loose threads pulling across the back to pull in the sides of the ribbon.  (I’m certain I’m not the first to discover this, but it was kind of a “happy duh” moment for me.)

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (white), SU Chocolate Chip   Patterned Paper:  Basic Grey Pheobe Paper Pad   Stamps:  Serenity Now by My Favorite Things, A Good Egg by Stampin’ Up!   Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Copic markers, ribbon, WeR Memory Keepers Copper hardware, glue dots.  Card size 3 ½” x 2 1/4”.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I have a similar post for tomorrow (but not rude).  :)   Have a great day!

Take a Deep Breath!

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

How many times have I said that to my kids?  Many!  And now they’re saying it to me.  Ha!  At least I know they hear some of what I say!  I knew I had to use this sentiment from the new set, Serenity Now, by My Favorite Things.

TADBRAs usual, I paper-pieced the girl.  Now, I have a friend (I’m not mentioning any names…she knows who she is :) ) who thinks it’s kind of freaky how I cut up all these little arms and legs and put them back together.  It never really bothered me until I was working with this image.  I cut the arms and chest as one piece and I will admit, it DID look rather bizarre with the arms stretched out, no body.  But it was all good once her parts were in their proper places.   :)

After piecing everything together, I added some shading with a light gray marker.  Also, the arms are not attached to the paper to add a bit more interest to the card.

Don’t forget about the MFT New Release Cocktail Party at SCS tonight from 9-11 est.  The new sets will be released at 10:30.  Pop on over for some “twisted” fun and find out how you can be the next MFT Guest Designer.

Thanks for stopping by!!! Have a great day!

My, what big ears you have.

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things is releasing two new sets Wednesday evening, one of which is Eggstra-Special Easter.   Aren’t those big ears adorable?

HEMFTThe last time I was in my semi-local scrap store, I picked up some of this new patterned paper by Imaginisce called For Peep’s Sake.  (How cute is that?!)  Each paper has glitter on one side and a coordinating color/pattern on the other.   Of course I had to buy one of each…you’ll be seeing it.  :)  I thought it was perfect for this stamp set!

I colored the bunny and the flowers with Copic markers, then added a touch of sparkle to the tulips and leaves with orange and melon Spica glitter pens.  I wasn’t sure whether I *really* needed those as I have other glitter pens, but these add just a touch of shimmer and they dry quickly, so I decided yes, I did in fact “need” them.  ;)   And, as usual, I used a 3-d black gel pen on the bunny’s eyes and nose they’re shiny and raised just a bit.

HE150I used the ribbon to fill a bit of the empty space in the upper corner of the focal image.  Since there wasn’t quite enough room for the knot to the right of the image, I used SU’s slot punch so I could bring the ribbon over just a bit.  It’s a little trick I use often.  Sometimes you can’t even tell I’ve punched a hole as the ends of the knot will cover the area, like here and here.

The focal image is raised on pop dots to accommodate the ribbon underneath, and I added the brads in the corners just to add a bit more interest to the card.  (I like “stuff” on a card.)

Be sure to check out MFT’s Member Forum for additional details on the New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, February 6 from 9-11 p.m. est.  And find out how you can be the next MFT Guest Designer!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day! :)

Cardstock:  Certainly Celery, Papertrey Ink white   Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce For Peep’s Sake “Hot Chicks” and “Spring Fling”   Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Eggstra-Special Easter”   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Copic markers, slot punch, ribbon (Making Memories?), white brads, Spica glitter pens, Sakura 3-d black gel pen, pop dots.  Card size 5” x 5”.

Where’s the Staple?

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

CM5

Today’s WT Challenge at SCS is to use staples.  In trying to decide what to do, I dug through all my stamps looking for inspiration when, in the end, it was right in front of me.  I had already stamped this cat image from Cat n’ Dog by My Favorite Things.  I looked at the little fish stamp that came with the set and I thought I could use a staple for it’s backbone.  To do this, I put together all the layers for the sentiment, then I put the staple where I wanted to the fish.  I used a black marker on the stamp, omitting the backbone, then stamped over the staple.  I had to rock the stamp a bit.  I think it worked well enough.  I touched up just a bit with the black marker after stamping.

Once the fish was in place, I stamped the sentiment and put together the rest of the card.

Thanks for stopping by!!  Have a great day!

Fun with Farm Friends

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

SMFT1Good morning!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

I have two cards to share today, both using Farm Friends by My Favorite Things.  I just adore the sayings that come with each of these images.  For the cow there is “Nobody does it butter,” “Udderly Delightful” and “sMOOches.”  With the mouse there is “Say Cheese,” “How Mice of You” and, my favorite, “Have a Gouda Day.” That just cracks me up.

So for the “sMOOches” card, I colored the cow using Copic markers, colored the eyes with a black 3-d gel pen and popped up the head.  Then I colored the flowery part, cut that out and adhered it to a square of patterned paper with only the border stamped.  This card *almost* follows Cindy’s MFT Monday sketch for this week.  I had to move the sentiment because I used ribbon instead of flowers.  I don’t have many Primas and the ones I have just didn’t work…plus I’m Prima “challenged” so it was best for me to just not go there.  ;)

HAGDR1For this mouse card, I colored the image with Copics, cut out around the curvy border, then adhered that piece onto the rust paper, again with just the border stamped.  I used Chocolate ink to stamp the cheese on the brown strip, punched the holes and stitched around the three sides of the card front.  All edges are sponged with distress ink.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a great day!

Card 1:  Cardstock:  SU Bravo Burgundy, Very Vanilla, Papertrey Ink white   Patterned Paper:  Fancy Pants “Pure”   Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Farm Friends”   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Ribbon, American Crafts copper brads, black Sakura 3-d gel pen, pop dots, sewing machine/thread. Card size 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. Card 2:  Cardstock:  SU Very Vanilla, Papertrey Ink white   Patterned Paper:  My Mind’s Eye “Birthday Boy” Stripe and Brun papier   Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Farm Friends”   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black, Ranger Walnut Distress, SU Chocolate Chip   Accessories: Copic markers, mm copper brads, 1/8” hole punch, black Sakura 3-d gel pen, pop dots, sewing machine/thread.  Card size 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”.

Sweet, sweet, sweet on You

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

SOY4MFT

Hello!!  I hope you all had a great week!  I’m certainly ready for a weekend!  Are you?

Here’s a sample using the new mini-set of the month by My Favorite ThingsBe Mine.  I only used one of the four hearts and one word from one of the sentiments, but I like it!  I was trying to be frugal…making the most of that chipboard alpha set I bought from SU way back (you know, one of those things I *had* to have and rarely use).  That’s an upside down n.  I don’t know what I’ll do with most of the letters.  Maybe I’ll make a really big card and spell something out. lol.

Anyway, the paper is Daisy D’s new Maybe Baby Valentine line.  If you look closely at the patterned paper, you can see faint x’s and o’s in the pattern.  So cute!    The brads are also Maybe Baby.  The cardstock is actually Rose Red but it looks way more red here than it actually is.

Thanks for stopping by!  I’ll be back soon!  Have a great Saturday!

Herd it’s Your Birthday

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

HIYBD1Hi everyone!  I had hoped to post again sooner, but things have been kind of crazy.  I have another sample from Punny Farm by My Favorite Things.  This is such a fun set!  And it’s available tonight (1/9) at 10:30!  Be sure to check out the MFT forum.  There’s a lot going on over there tonight…sneak peeks, challenges, and a chance to become the next My Favorite Things Guest Designer!

This is a pretty simple card (a lot of mine seem to be that way anymore).  I stamped and colored the cow, then stamped the mouse on a piece of scrap paper.  He’s colored and cut out (yes, I cut out that curly tail…I’m not quite sure how I managed that without lopping it off), then I tucked in a little candle and raised him on a pop dot.  The little dots across the scalloped border were made using a 3-d gel pen so they’re raised and shiny.

I still have a sample from each of the other two new MFT sets, Be Mine and Happy Occasions.  I’ll post them soon!  Thanks for stopping by!!  Have a great evening/day! :)  (Don’t forget to check out that forum!)

Cardstock:  Whisper White, Black, Regal Rose (candle)   Patterned Paper:  Imaginisce “Striped Sophistication”   Stamps:  My Favorite Things “Punny Farm”   Ink:  Brilliance Graphite Black   Accessories:  Copic markers, Sakura black 3-d gel pen, SU yellow, black and orange markers, black eyelets, dimensionals, scallop blade/Fiskars Rotary Trimmer. Card size 4 ¼” x 5 ½”.

An MFT Sneak Peek

Published by Shel9999 under My Designs, My Favorite Things

JC4Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I’m still up to my eyeballs in my big project (which, unfortunately, I cannot share), but I just *had* to take time to play with the latest sets from My Favorite Things.  They are SO cute!!

MFT is releasing three new sets on  Wednesday, January 9th.  This one is called Punny Farm.  I just know it will be a huge hit!!  There are so many cute animal images and some really cute sayings.

I used MFT’s Monday sketch challenge hosted by the amazingly talented Cindy Haffner.  I may have cheated a bit with that sentiment, but I didn’t know where to put it.  (I guess I could have just stamped it on the gold panel.)

Here the entire girl is paper-pieced except for her hat.  (I colored it with Copic markers drawing tiny lines and leaving some space uncovered to give it a ’straw’ look.)  I used different patterns and solids from the We R Memory Keepers Silver Lining line, then added shading to the pieces with my markers.  The chicken was colored with my dying white gel pen.  (Time to get another!)

For more samples by the design team, check out their blogs here or Splitcoast here.

Head on over to the MFT forum for details on the New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday night (January 9th) from 9-11 pm EASTERN time. There will be sneak peeks, lots of fun and a chance to become MFT’s next Guest Designer.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!  Have a great day!
