What’s Up Buttercup?

Hi everyone! I so very much enjoyed coloring Power Poppy‘s Countryside Bouquet digital stamp (here), I decided to try another. (I want to color more flowers.) This time I used Cuppa Buttercup.

I also returned to Copic’s Coloring Foundations – Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers for coloring inspiration.

I used the buttery yellow marker combination shown below as well as the suggested (YG) greens for the leaves.

One thing I learned from the book today is that shadow can be added to leaves using a V05 marker. Layering V05 over the green creates a deeper green shadow, not violet at all. I thought that was interesting. I never would have thought to try that on my own.

To create the bluish/gray cup, I lightly colored with BG70 and BG10 then warmed the color by layering W00 and W1 over top.

Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a card I created using Power Poppy‘s lovely Countryside Bouquet digital stamp set. It’s one of my favorites of Power Poppy’s digital images. So pretty. From the set I used only the image, choosing a different sentiment from Cuppa Buttercups Digital stamp set.

I don’t really have “go-to” colors for floral images as I seem to mostly gravitate toward coloring people. I need to work on that though as I truly enjoy coloring nature/flowers.

To the rescue comes Copic’s Coloring Foundations – Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers. Inside is the best collection of suggested marker colors for flowers and leaves.

Not only does the book include many marker combinations, there are also step by step tutorials for bringing to life simple as well as complex images.

On page 15 I found a bright yellow/orange color combination I wanted to use. I did something a little differnt in the centers as the flowers are not quite the same. I love the result. ♥

Thank You (Power Poppy)

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a card using Forget-Me-Not Heart digital stamp by Power Poppy. I love the delicate stems, not to mention the heart shape. So sweet. 🙂

I printed the image onto X-Press It Blending Card and colored with Copics. I used a small handful of markers– a few yellows and oranges for the blossoms (even though Forget-Me-Nots are most commonly blue), with the Copic equivalent of Pantone’s Color of the Year, YG25, and accompanying shades for the leaves. (You can see all of Copic’s YG choices HERE.)

I don’t usually use such a bright green as a dominant color in my work but Pantone’s bright cheery green has inspired me. I used a bit of it in a previous post (here) but wanted to focus on this refreshing color a bit more. In addition to using YG25 for the leaves, I used a bright green stripe in the background. It’s a bit more bold than my “usual,” but I like it!

Copic markers – E35, Y32, YR12, YR23, YG17, YG23, YG25, YR18, YR68, W00, W1, W2

I challenge you to incorporate some YG25 in your creating! You’ll definitely be seeing more from me. 🙂

You are in my thoughts always (power poppy)

Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I purchased this sweet digital image, Chickadee in Barberry, from Power Poppy. I love the little bird and bits of snow. 🙂

The digital stamp actually comes along with four holiday sentiments. The one I used is from another Power Poppy digital stamp, Winter Pick Me Up.

Copic markers – B21, B23, E27, E30, E34, E35, N5, N7, R20, R22, R24, R27, R37, W1, W2, YG93, YG95, YG97, YG99, 110

Once colored, I sprinkled several teeny tiny red rhinestones around the image. (I think that little bird is so very sweet.)

Peace Love Hope Friendship

On Black Friday there were so many great deals to be had. I accomplished a bit of Christmas shopping, and splurged a bit on myself, purchasing this sweet C0zy Cupfuls stamp set by Power Poppy.

I know some of my friends will be surprised to see me posting this particular image because I am not a fan of (male) Cardinals. There’s one in particular that shows up every spring, year after year….after year. (I’m just assuming it’s the same one. For all I know, the whole lot of them are crazy.) This one follows me around the house from window to window, pecking wildly like it’s lost its mind. All. Day. Long. I don’t know what it’s trying to accomplish. It might be secretly entertained by my annoyance, screaming and yes, cursing. It makes me INSANE.

Anyway, I specifically love the (quiet, non-threatening) female bird on top of the cups, sharing her twig (with the wacky one). 😉 I adore the other images in the set, but strangely enough, this one is my favorite.

After stamping onto X-Press It Blending Card and coloring with Copic markers, I decided to tie a pretty ribbon around the top. I have loads of ribbon but don’t often use it. It is mostly stored on ribbon cards like this:

When I take it off of the card, it looks like this (or worse):

I don’t like the creases, and there always seems to be one or more in the worst locations after tying my bow. Now available from the Copic website is the Clover Mini Iron. It’s thin, has a perfectly small, pointed tip and heats in just a few minutes.

There are two heat settings (low and high), a cute little stand and it’s great for ironing ribbon! I highly recommend! I also highly recommend taking care not to accidentally touch the shaft. It gets hot. Very, very hot. It will hurt. Just sayin…

Once pressed, I tied my crease-free ribbon into a pretty bow around the top of my colored panel. *happy sigh*

Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers

Today I have a step-by-step tutorial on coloring flowers and leaves with Copic markers. I’ve used many of the techniques found in Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers published by Imagination International and written/illustrated by Marianne Walker. The book includes tutorials ranging from basic to intermediate as well as line art that can be copied/printed for practice.

The book covers smooth coloring and blending, showing depth through color, coloring skies, adding a soft haze around an image as well as different ways to use the Colorless Blender. It’s a great resource for beginners as well as those with more coloring experience.

I printed this lovely Winter Pick Me Up digital image from Power Poppy onto X-Press It Blending Card. There is an accompanying sentiment but I chose to leave my card front sentiment-free. Continue reading →

Live Simply, Bloom Wildly (Color Throwdown)

I’m so excited to be playing along this month as a guest for Color Throwdown! For the next several weeks, I’ll be joining the amazing (and I do mean AMAZING) Color Throwdown Girls. So fun! 🙂

Wanda is our hostess this week and she has selected this gorgeous color combo of Pale Mint Green, Saffron Yellow and Ivory. Oh, how I love it!

I chose to use Countryside Bouquet digital stamp from Power Poppy. What a beautiful image!

After coloring with Copics and assembling my card, I decided to add tiny pearls within the design of the patterned paper. I used hemp cord to adhere the “tag” sentiment, adding a few pearls there also.
