Today I have a sweet little image I couldn’t wait to color as well as some really exciting news! I am SO excited to be posting today. :) Eeeeeee! :)
This adorable Lil Primrose Bloom image is by Kaiser Craft. I couldn’t resist her. :)
The flower is a separate image within the “mini clear” set. I stamped it next to the girl and drew in the flower stem with a Copic Multiliner. After coloring with Copics, I added dots of clear glaze over the flower centers.
I think mostly everyone knows that I’ve been doing some things here and there for Copic. I seriously love my markers and to be asked to submit or assist, anything really, has been such an honor. But to receive an invitation to be an “official” part of their design team… *deep breath* …has been unbelievable. It’s a good thing Marianne asked me in an email because if she had called, she likely would have thought I’d hung up on her…or passed out. I wouldn’t have been able to say a thing. I was stunned. Still am.
After reading the email at LEAST ten times (seriously), I was able to type a three or four sentence response to Marianne saying, “Yes. YES. YES!!” (Those were not the three sentences. *snort*) I’m SO thrilled! And, I am not squealing alone! I have a new squealing buddy, Cindy Lawrence. I’m very much looking forward to getting to know her, and the other ladies better.
This is SUCH a great group of ladies, so sweet, so talented, so helpful, so funny. And I am SO lucky.

Hi, Congratulations on your fabulous news!!!! For a tutorial, I would love to see how you blend two different colours into each other ie from say red through to yellow so you can’t see where one ends and the other colour starts. Also, how do you do your shaddows.

Would love to see a tutorial on the uses of the colourless blender. I use it for the obvious lightening but nothing else. Is there a special knack to lightening as I see ‘edges’, not a smooth blending.

I would love to see a tutorial on pleats and how to shade them. I have trouble with making them look soft and real.
Congratulations Michele! I love your colouring and can’t wait to see you share more tutorials. I still like seeing hair and skin tutorials….I’m always trying to work on my colouring skills so fresh approaches are always great.
My current favorite way to use my Copics is to make a glitter cardstock panel using wide two sided tape like X-press It tape or Scor Tape….the width of the tape is approximately 4″. You can also cut your tape to the size of your card panel from the 8 x 10 sheets of the double sided adhesive sheets. Anyway, cut your card panel and adhere the same size tape to it. burnish it down real well. Peel off the protective sheet and stick down a Class A Peel, Dazzle, Starform or any other brand outline sticker to the sticky panel and burnish it down real well using the protective sheet you peeled off to burnish. I love using gold or silver outline stickers. Then cover the whole panel with white, cool highlight or warm highlight microfine glitter and burnish is down real good. Now color the inside of the image with Copics, but rather than using brush stokes you need to dab on the color. If you use brush stokes you will pull the glitter off. If you burnished the stick down well enough, your Copic color won’t bleed outside the sticker. I hope this makes sense. My fav stickers are butterflies, flowers or leaves.
I want fur!!! I so love Fred Bear, & struggle to make him “furry”. I keep looking for a tutorial, but haven’t found one. Help!!! …and thanks for the chance.

I’m pretty new to Copics and I’ve never taken a class on how to use them ~ I’ve just pretty much learned what I know from watching blog videos. I still have a really hard time with light source and shading. Also, sometimes I think I try too hard to get the colors to blend and don’t end up with the definition that I want. Anything you can do to help with that would be appreciated.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I have over 100 Copics and will never be a great artist, but they are sooo fun to play with & I do learn more each time I practice! I sooo love that I can color my embellishments and buy mostly clear/white for that reason now & use my Copics to color match to my project. I’d love more info on coloring different materials (plastics/metal, etc.). I know for many the air brush system is best to get nice coverage.

skin tones are the hardest thing for me to grasp including different ethnic groups too.

I use my Copics to color the ends of stained wood on my cabinet and trim installations. The range of colors helps me match the stain for perfect results!

Congrats on joining the DT! I’d like to see more hair stuff such as combos for various nuanced hair colors, how to color highlighted, streaked, or frosted hair, how to decide where highlights and shadows should be on different hair styles, how to give it texture without looking over or under done.

I would love to see a tutorial on odd color blends! The use of layering two completely different colors to get a unique result, using different color families, etc.

I would love to see the technique of coloring on the raised side of an embossing folder and then misting the paper with Copic blending solution, then run the paper through the machine in the embossing folder. (saw this on Pinterest) It makes beautiful backgrounds. Thanks for the chance to win!

I used my Copics to make beautiful cards but also beautiful signs for my new business. The wide range of beautiful deep colors is why I buy Copics.

As far as tutorials, I’m a newbie, so ANY tutorials are helpful & appreciated! I’d say that the biggest thing I’m struggling with is knowing where to put my shadows/shading when coloring an image. I’ve tried the trick of drawing an arrow on another sheet of paper to remind myself what direction the light is coming from. . . but I still have a hard time visualizing where to add in the shadows.
I love your coloring… and I would love to see just videos of any kind..that what I do is search youtube for tutorials of coloring hoping that some of it is getting through my thick head…lol..so congrats!! I sure I will be scoping you out and watching you mad skillz from now on…..oh I would love to win that bag..I have been wanting it from the moment I saw it was coming out…I want it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!!!

Sheesh! I see why you had difficulty resisting the image she’s adorable. But, the way you colored her is amazing! I love the way you can match any designer paper, ribbon or anything for that matter with Copics. I’ve collected about 200 now and I’m still learning, learning, learning. I must say the Copic coloring books from Marianne and Colleen are extremely helpful. I’d still like to see tutorials on shading placement.

Personally, I'd like to see a background tutorial, because I always have a lot of trouble with that. Also, I find it hard to make patterns in the background traditionally because I keep accidentally coloring into the lines of the figure/other stuff. Do you happen to have any tips for that?

I would love to see a tutorial describing how to color large sections of a picture if one doesn’t have wide markers. It seems the marker dries faster than the ink goes down in those large parts. Alternatively, I would like to learn how to color rocks and trees. Congratulations on your new job.

I’m a total beginner so very basic tutorials would be great. I seem to do better coloring fairly large spaces so any hints on doing small areas would be helpful, too. Congrats! I’m in pretty much a little of everything that has to do with crafting. I love polymer clay and recently I used the copic markers to add extra color and details. Of course I baked the clay 1st before drawing on it with the copic. :0) It really works great. So now my poor markers are even getting more use out of them. Just love Copic Markers! I have a nice collection of Copics now. I still am stuck in the basic marker coloring rut though. I’m still basically using my Copics like Tombows or Marvy’s. I guess I’m not used to blending. For tutorials I would like to see how you do fur, how you do monochrome and always interested in hair combo’s I think we all have favorite combinations but I find it always very helpful to get new combinations and try them. I watch every tutorial out there as i think everyone has something to offer and it is the best tool that I have found so far. I love the tutorials….
Goody, goody, goody! We’re so excited to be using copic markers, and would like to see more about different kinds of papers and different ways to put an image on the paper (i.e., stamping, tracing, line drawing, etc.)–and what type of medium to use to do this that will “withstand” the copic marker.

hi here is my answer of this question….What is a unique way that you’ve used your Copics (or want to use your Copics), besides coloring a stamped image on paper?.. i use my copic on my anime and manga draws and im starting to do scrapbooking so im a anime and manga beginner..so im trying my best on what i do and i live copic ..they are the best.. i have some copics and im saving so i can buy my first set of copics ..i hardly buy the copics i have ..but i hope soon,,so i well post my draw or art ..thank you so much and by the way ur work is really pretty.. thank you for sharing ur art work is really pretty .:)

I’d love to learn more about blending and choosing the correct colors to compliment… If you’re coloring an image that is yellow for instance of course you can add depth with darker/lighter yellows… but when do you know which red to pick for an accent and just the right ‘pop’ of color. I realize a lot of that comes with experience, but you guys make it look so easy!! Also would like to see more product comparisons… working with copics and xxx paper or inks, etc.. More on coloring skin tones, adding touches of pink to the cheeks, etc. AND shading… I have Marianne Walker’s Book… and have taken art classes, but there’s something about a step by step tutorial that makes it register! I would like to see tutorials on (1) choosing color schemes for projects, (2) selecting gradient colors for blending and shading and highlighting, (3) selecting colors to add dimension to objects (including those to make portions of the image recede), and (4) techniques for correcting errors. I would love to see tutorials on gradients of different colors…like..going from a red to yellow. I like to experiment with colors and would love to pull this off without it looking cheap and cheesy

I’d really love to see a tutorial (video, if at all possible) for doing really good reflective surfaces, like glass window panes, water, ice, metalic surfaces. I have a hard time creating a good ‘chromed’ look for things like cars.. windows on buildings practically make me tear out my hair.
Also, I’d love to see a tutorial on how to do natural textures, like rock, gravel, sand, bark, and natural-looking grass. I have a really good technique for bricks that I’d love to share, too.

Congratulations!!! I would love to learn how to use the airbrush. I have one and haven’t used it much because I don’t know what I’m doing! lol I’d also like to learn how to color large areas including highlights and shading without streaks. I do pretty well with small images but the larger ones are harder. And fur would be good too. I LOVE my copics!

Congratulations! I just started using copics last summer. I would like to see some tutorials on shading using the gray markers. I enjoy coloring animals (like frogs) and I am having a hard time making a frog sitting on a lily pad look real (needless to say – it involves a lot of greens).

I have a number of Copics and really like to see colors blended… I’m color-challenged. I never know which ones should (could?) be blended together. I end up using the same ones over and over and would really like to use more of them.

The two tutorials I would most like to see are 1) shading around my images to create background and depth. Like a shaded base for the vase to sit on or a light shading around the image to really make it stand out without taking over. 2) I would like to know more about hair coloring. I have seen many tutorials and I want it to look natural and look like hair… I can’t seem to make it happen! But I’m not giving up!

I would like to see a tutorial to do backgrounds. I see lots of creations and lots of background things that I just sit and drool over. I also would like to see just about anything. This is the way that I taught myself to color with the copics, by watching tutorials and reading about the copics.

First off, let me start by saying congratulations!
To be eligible, please leave a comment on this post telling me what tutorials you would like to see.
I myself would like to see a tutorial on skin and color shadowing. A lot of people draw and color these amazing pictures of people and faces but just don’t get the shadow, caused by the sun, in the right position of the hair or object in place causing the shadow. It doesn’t have to only be in shadows of people but also in objects like flowers. You rarely see the shadow within the folded crease of the flower pedals. That would be something I would love to see and study.
Another good tutorial would be shadows on the ground. A lot of people also tend to show shadows in different directions or have no shadow at all. Well, it all depends on where your sun, or whatever light source, lies.
One last good tutorial would be how to make things glow or look bright. Say you have a drawing of a brand new, red, leather ball. Now imagine you taking it outside to use. I would like to show how the sun reflects off the ball and gives it that shiny yet glowing kind of texture.

I always find coloring hair a real challenge. I never seem to get the highlight in the right place.. Is there a secret to how it is done…
Also in shading, do I start with the darkest color first or the lightest.. another challenge for me.
