Exciting News… and an Exciting Give-away!

Today I have a sweet little image I couldn’t wait to color as well as some really exciting news!  I am SO excited to be posting today.  :)  Eeeeeee!  :)

This adorable Lil Primrose Bloom image is by Kaiser Craft.  I couldn’t resist her.  :)

The flower is a separate image within the “mini clear” set.  I stamped it next to the girl and drew in the flower stem with a Copic Multiliner.  After coloring with Copics, I added dots of clear glaze over the flower centers.

I think mostly everyone knows that I’ve been doing some things here and there for Copic.  I seriously love my markers and to be asked to submit or assist, anything really, has been such an honor.  But to receive an invitation to be an “official” part of their design team… *deep breath* …has been unbelievable.  It’s a good thing Marianne asked me in an email because if she had called, she likely would have thought I’d hung up on her…or passed out. I wouldn’t have been able to say a thing.  I was stunned.   Still am.

After reading the email at LEAST ten times (seriously), I was able to type a three or four sentence response to Marianne saying, “Yes.  YES.  YES!!”  (Those were not the three sentences. *snort*)  I’m SO thrilled!  And, I am not squealing alone!  I have a new squealing buddy, Cindy Lawrence.   I’m very much looking forward to getting to know her, and the other ladies better.

This is SUCH a great group of ladies, so sweet, so talented, so helpful, so funny.  And I am SO lucky.   :)

In celebration of adding Cindy and I to the team, Copic is giving away TWO of the new Copic All Marker Carry Cases…one here on my blog, one on Cindy’s blog.

Isn’t that generous? Wow!  (The markers are NOT included.  And due to distribution rights, the give-away is only open to residents of the US and Canada.)

To be eligible, please leave a comment on this post telling me what tutorials you would like to see…a particular background technique?  Coloring something specific such as hair and skin?  Furr?  That type of thing.  I will close the commenting on Sunday, March 4th, 9 p.m. and select and announce one random winner here on my blog on Monday, March 5th at 9 a.m. EST.

Be sure to stop by Cindy’s blog for a second chance to win a Copic All Marker Carry Case! She has a different question for you though, so pay attention!  :)

You’ll also want to swing by the rest of the team blogs as they are each giving away rolls of Copic’s new 1/4″ foam tape and regular double-sided tape.  Here are the links:

Thank you SO much for stopping by!  Good luck, and have a great day! :)

Stamps:  Kaiser Craft “Lil Primrose Bloom” and “Friends” Mini Clear   Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black   Paper:  Prism Rose Medium, X-Press It Blending Card, Crate Paper Paper Heart Collection (6×6)   Accessories:  Copic markers (E00, E11, R20, R21, R22, YR31, Y21, YR21, YR24, E13, E15, E18, YG91, YG93, YG95, W00, W1, BG0000, Colorless Blender), Sakura clear 3-d glaze pen, My Favorite Things Small Scallop Border Die-namics, ribbon, Stampin Up mini library clip, foam boosters.  Finished size 5″ x 5″.

Congratulations, Michele!!! :) I am excited to be a Copics newbie (I started my collection during Michael’s last 50% off coupon week)! So I would love to see tutorials on any kind of coloring, especially hair, skin, and lighting/shading techniques (oh, & also how to use the colorless blending pen).

I still a newbie to Copics and would love to see a tutorial on doing black hair. Very challenging for me. Thanks so much!

  4. Congratulations, this is wonderful news, love your creations. I would love to learn skin and hair coloring, especially all different cultures and how to decide what colors would go well together

  5. Hi, Congratulations on your fabulous news!!!! For a tutorial, I would love to see how you blend two different colours into each other ie from say red through to yellow so you can’t see where one ends and the other colour starts. Also, how do you do your shaddows.
    Thanks
    Alison

Would love to see a tutorial on the uses of the colourless blender. I use it for the obvious lightening but nothing else. Is there a special knack to lightening as I see ‘edges’, not a smooth blending.

  13. Wowie! CONGRATS, Michele! I am SO HAPPY for you!! You so deserve this! How fun! As far as what I’d like to see…I loved how you colored the bear in this card… http://papercuts.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2012/02/25/thank-you-beary-much/

    Cheryl

  22. CONGRATULATIONS, Michele!!! I am SO happy for you! You will be a fabulous addition to their team! This card is quite delightful! The colors and patterns are a beautiful mix together! I would love some more tips for coloring skin and hair with my Copics! :D

  23. I would love to see a tutorial on pleats and how to shade them. I have trouble with making them look soft and real.

  24. Congratulations Michele! I love your colouring and can’t wait to see you share more tutorials. I still like seeing hair and skin tutorials….I’m always trying to work on my colouring skills so fresh approaches are always great.

  25. My current favorite way to use my Copics is to make a glitter cardstock panel using wide two sided tape like X-press It tape or Scor Tape….the width of the tape is approximately 4″. You can also cut your tape to the size of your card panel from the 8 x 10 sheets of the double sided adhesive sheets. Anyway, cut your card panel and adhere the same size tape to it. burnish it down real well. Peel off the protective sheet and stick down a Class A Peel, Dazzle, Starform or any other brand outline sticker to the sticky panel and burnish it down real well using the protective sheet you peeled off to burnish. I love using gold or silver outline stickers. Then cover the whole panel with white, cool highlight or warm highlight microfine glitter and burnish is down real good. Now color the inside of the image with Copics, but rather than using brush stokes you need to dab on the color. If you use brush stokes you will pull the glitter off. If you burnished the stick down well enough, your Copic color won’t bleed outside the sticker. I hope this makes sense. My fav stickers are butterflies, flowers or leaves.

  26. I want fur!!! I so love Fred Bear, & struggle to make him “furry”. I keep looking for a tutorial, but haven’t found one. Help!!! …and thanks for the chance.

  27. Congrats Michele! You are so deserving and I am so happy for you! What an awesome DT!

  30. WOW! WOW! WOW! What a gorgeous card, Michele! I adore this sweet image…I think you have made her even more adorable with how you added the flower in and drew in the stem. The colouring is SO beautifully done, as always! CONGRATS, on your new DT post to the Copic team. That is SO AWESOME! I’m super thrilled for you and Copic is so lucky to have you and your talent for coloring and sharing your knowledge on their team. I can’t wait to see more colouring tutorials from you and I would love to get some tips on how to do a better job at blending, shading, creating highlights like on pleats on dresses and clothing etc. so if you have any ideas that would be fab! Congratulations again, hun!!!
    Big Hugs,t

  210. I would love to see a “sidewalk and grass” background tutorial!

  211. Congrats on being added to the design team!

As far as tutorials, I’m a newbie, so ANY tutorials are helpful & appreciated! I’d say that the biggest thing I’m struggling with is knowing where to put my shadows/shading when coloring an image. I’ve tried the trick of drawing an arrow on another sheet of paper to remind myself what direction the light is coming from. . . but I still have a hard time visualizing where to add in the shadows.

  212. I love your coloring… and I would love to see just videos of any kind..that what I do is search youtube for tutorials of coloring hoping that some of it is getting through my thick head…lol..so congrats!! 213. Congratulations! I would like to see tutorials on shading…..always a big challenge for me but can make a huge difference on your artwork!

  214. I’m only a beginner with copics so at the moment I’ve been looking for al l manner of beginner tutorials, I’m particularly intersted in shading – and how different angles of light affect the basic shapes – box, globe, pyramid, cylinder etc :)

  215. Sheesh! I see why you had difficulty resisting the image she’s adorable. But, the way you colored her is amazing! I love the way you can match any designer paper, ribbon or anything for that matter with Copics. I’ve collected about 200 now and I’m still learning, learning, learning. I must say the Copic coloring books from Marianne and Colleen are extremely helpful. I’d still like to see tutorials on shading placement.
Congrats on making the design team,
    Jean S ~

  216. Shannon The Cat :3

Whoooa, it’s so pretty and so CUTE >W<

    When I grow up, I want to do something like that… Q u Q
The composition is so perfect too…

Personally, I'd like to see a background tutorial, because I always have a lot of trouble with that. Also, I find it hard to make patterns in the background traditionally because I keep accidentally coloring into the lines of the figure/other stuff. Do you happen to have any tips for that?

  283. I have a nice collection of Copics now. I still am stuck in the basic marker coloring rut though. I’m still basically using my Copics like Tombows or Marvy’s. I guess I’m not used to blending. I’d love to see a tutorial on how to blend skin tones and putting “cheeks” on faces so they don’t just turn out like two round pink dots.

  284. I need help in shading area. Everything looks like a straight line.

  285. Congratulations on joining the design team. I’m relatively new to copics so I would like to see tutorials on shading and blending techniques.

  286. Congratulations!
I love all the tutorials on the copic techniques, it’s very interesting to see what others are doing and the different techniques that each uses.

  287. Congrats!!! My copicswould be lost in this case, but I will work very hard to fill it!!!

  288. Congrats!! I’d love to see a tutorial on shading for ruffles and folds in clothing.

  289. Lori Douglass

I am a doodler for decades and want to explore a more creative side… can I do more than scribble on note pads during meetings or while sitting on hold. Can I create cards, pictures or more?

Please pick me. I have zero budget with my husband being unemployed.

  290. Robin Burgeson

Congratulations on being appointed to the Copics design team. Your art work is really colorful and well done. I haven’t found just the right tutorial for coloring a sky, so I’d love to see one. Thanks for the chance to win a bag. I drag my markers all over the house, and a bag would be perfect for keeping them in one place.

  291. Congrats Michele! Thanks for the opportunity to win this fabulous case. My favorite tutorials have to be coloring hair. I seem to have the most trouble with that. Thanks again!

  292. Congrats!!! And I’ve seen some things colored with copics and then using the colorless blender to remove some color so things almost look like leather? Does that make sense?

  293. I would like to see hair, skin, shading, highlighting, blending very dark colors.

  294. Would love to see tutorials on color choices – I struggle with choosing good combinations.

  295. Congratulation! I enjoy most of the tutorials- the more unusual techniques especially for those of us who have been using copics for some time. Thanks!

  296. CindyM-Cindylu

  297. Congrats on the new assignment. Wonder opportunity. For tutorials I would like to see how you do fur, how you do monochrome and always interested in hair combo’s I think we all have favorite combinations but I find it always very helpful to get new combinations and try them. I watch every tutorial out there as i think everyone has something to offer and it is the best tool that I have found so far. I love the tutorials….

  298. M. TYNAN WEITSEN

Goody, goody, goody! We’re so excited to be using copic markers, and would like to see more about different kinds of papers and different ways to put an image on the paper (i.e., stamping, tracing, line drawing, etc.)–and what type of medium to use to do this that will “withstand” the copic marker.

  299. Congrats girlie!!! WOOP WOOP!!!! I would LOVE to see a tutorial on coloring backgrounds…like behind main focal images. YAY!!!

  300. Congrats Michele!!! Your card is gorgeous and I LOVE the colors you used!! You are in fabulous company with Ms. Cindy and the rest of the DT. Honestly, I can NEVER see enough hair coloring and… my worse enemy… coloring greys and blues on objects that are white… polar bears, etc. I always add to much or not enough for white objects. 538. Comic Creations

First off, let me start by saying congratulations!

To be eligible, please leave a comment on this post telling me what tutorials you would like to see.

I myself would like to see a tutorial on skin and color shadowing. A lot of people draw and color these amazing pictures of people and faces but just don’t get the shadow, caused by the sun, in the right position of the hair or object in place causing the shadow. It doesn’t have to only be in shadows of people but also in objects like flowers. You rarely see the shadow within the folded crease of the flower pedals. That would be something I would love to see and study.

Another good tutorial would be shadows on the ground. A lot of people also tend to show shadows in different directions or have no shadow at all. Well, it all depends on where your sun, or whatever light source, lies.
One last good tutorial would be how to make things glow or look bright. Say you have a drawing of a brand new, red, leather ball. Now imagine you taking it outside to use. I would like to show how the sun reflects off the ball and gives it that shiny yet glowing kind of texture.

    Once Again Congratulations!!!

    Hope I Win!!!
    ~CC
